Telling stories with music at HipHarp.com

As I get ready to start my Blues HarpStyle 2017 online class with over 100 harpists from all around the world I’m thinking deeply about what the Blues IS and what it gives us.  At it’s heart it’s such a simple form – 12 bars long, with infinite repeats.

Sometimes we get caught up thinking one certain style of Blues is ‘The Blues’ – but at it’s heart, it’s a 12-bar combination of rhythms and chord changes, and when you take it down to its simplest form, it can be used for anything … including the kind of therapeutic playing that many harpists do.
