Beautiful, Deborah. I don’t think I’ve heard this song before. If it is your first, when did you write it? It sounds so mature, like someone who’s been writing for decades before. I love the repeating themes, for aching emphasis. I love you.
Hey Fred! This was my first piece on the harp (as you well know – I wrote my first love song about YOU when I was – what, 13?). I wrote a lot of other music – mostly music theater – before then – but I had never written anything for harp. I must have written this when I was 25 or 26 – maybe 28?, when I was living in Berkeley. So glad you like it. I miss sitting across the room from you at twilight, each at his own work.
Love the song, but my comment is a different subject. I hope you enjoy my story. I took your webinar on July 4th and learned a lot. I have always been completely dependent on the printed music, but learned the marvelous progression in the key of C. On the following Sunday I was playing the offertory on my harp, a simple, beautiful old hymn. The song leader for the music team has a bad habit of starting his set before I finish my gift the to the service! I heard him pick up his guitar and get ready to start when I expertly extended my song with the lovely progression. I think he busted a gusset trying to figure out when he could start his set. I did it on purpose and I did ask God to forgive me (He does have a sense of humor). I am forgiven.
Well, that’s a first for uses of what people learn in my improvisation classes – and I love that it gave you a way to spontaneously express yourself musically — AND stand up for your place in the joyful noise.
