After life comes ...TRYOUTS??? Deborah Henson-Conant's new one-woman musical comedy, “What the Hell…??” takes us to the waiting room for Heaven where they’re looking for a few new members of the Celestial Choir -- but getting in won’t be easy. Auditions are more like “American Idol,” with a casting coach who has her own set of inner demons, including the belief that life itself is the ultimate reality game show, with Elvis on the judges’ panel.

It’s Music! It’s Theater! It’s Funny! It’s Moving!

A NOTE FROM DEBORAH
I'm absolutely loving rehearsals for "What the Hell...??" I'm working with a fabulous director, Wesley Savick, who's helped to shape the script, and express my ideas in ways I never imagined. Because of the subject matter of the show (Heavenly auditions), our early script meetings were a combination of existential inquiry and laughing on the floor. Now that we've finally moved into the new Central Square Theater, the show's expanded to a whole new level -- with lights and staging and - WOW!

I LOVE this show!!! This show is what they call a "book musical" -- meaning that, unlike my concert shows, which are like a series of musical short stories, "What the Hell..??", which runs about 80-90 minutes without an intermission, is a single story, where I play one character throughout the plot of the show -- and it's full of new music, as well as some re-conceptions of one or two tunes that people who know my shows will recognize. So come join me Opening Night, Aug. 13 -- or any other night of our two-week run Aug. 13 - 23.

For my friends and fans from far afield, we'll try to get clips onto YouTube after the first week. For everyone who can get to the Boston-area -- I look forward to seeing you at the show!
    - Deborah (Please just imagine that little JPEG of my signature is here -- I have to go practice my lines, so I don't have time to find it & stick it in here!)
