Broadcast Schedule (pdf)   •    E-Card

About the "Broadcast Schedule": "Invention & Alchemy" could air at any time on any PBS Station across the U.S. -- our PDF schedule (above) is just a guide. You may actually know before WE do that the show is airing on your station! If so, let us know!

Scroll down for more information including FAQs, Press Releases, etc.

"INVENTION & ALCHEMY” -- with the Grand Rapids Symphony and conductor David Lockington -- is NOW AIRING on PBS stations ACROSS THE COUNTRY! Check your station for airdates! Tell your friends! PLEDGE during the broadcasts! And most of all -- get ready to watch a GREAT show!

"Invention & Alchemy" takes us into the mind of Deborah Henson-Conant -- a world where stories meet music and a whole symphony orchestra transforms from a Mexican street band to a Celtic landscape, to a polka party with the garbageman, to a time machine.

It's a one-woman show...with a cast of 80 very talented musicians.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN AND WHERE PBS BROADCASTS "INVENTION & ALCHEMY"?
Keep an eye out for updates on Deborah's Tour Page, the PBS Broadcast Schedule (pdf), or the PBS Website. However, we are often not given notice of broadcasts until the last minute. You may well know before WE do if it's coming to your local PBS station! So if you see a broadcast coming to your area and we haven't put it on our site, please email us at publicity@hipharp.com and let us know!

I THOUGHT IT WAS A DVD - WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S A "TV SPECIAL" or "TV BROADCAST"?
The TV Broadcast is a streamlined version of the original DVD, edited especially for these broadcasts. It's a 60 minute-version in three acts, whereas the DVD version is 97 minutes in two acts.

IS THERE A LIST OF PBS STATIONS?
To find the PBS station closest to you, head to the PBS Website.

IS THE PBS VERSION OF "INVENTION & ALCHEMY" DIFFERENT FROM THE DVD VERSION?
Yes. The PBS broadcast is a streamlined, 3-act television version of the original DVD, a multi-camera, surround-sound disc, shot in high-definition.

Also, there is the possibility that you'll see an on-air appearance of Deborah herself during the broadcast!

DID PBS PRODUCE "INVENTION & ALCHEMY" ORIGINALLY?
Nope. A collection of independent artists (see the "Invention & Alchemy" Who's Who) worked together to create and produce "Invention & Alchemy" as a full-length DVD with nearly 50 minutes of additional specail features. It was then released as a commercial DVD/CD and the companion CD received a Grammy Nomination. The version folks will see on TV is a streamlined version of the DVD, which will appear on some PBS stations as a "Pledge Special" and on others as a standard TV special.

WHAT IS A PLEDGE PROGRAM?
A pledge program is essentially a pledge drive. During the broadcast of a pledge program, the specific PBS station airing the program asks for the support of viewers like you. By calling into the PBS station during the broadcast and pledging, viewers ensure that their local station has the support to continue airing quality programming like "Invention & Alchemy."

HOW CAN I PLEDGE?
Keep watching for updates and when "Invention & Alchemy" comes to a PBS station near you, tune in and follow the on-screen instructions to call in and pledge. By pledging, you support your station -- you also encourage them to continue airing the kind of programs you pledge during.

Host a pledge party! Have friends over to watch the pledge program and call in together!

WILL DEBORAH BE MAKING ON-AIR APPEARANCES?
Deborah made LIVE on-air appearances during the 2007 Pledge season. Most current broadcasts of "Invention & Alchemy" are now part of each station's standard schedule, so they aren't "pledge" programs.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP BRING "INVENTION & ALCHEMY" TO A PBS STATION NEAR ME?
Contact your local PBS Station (go here to find the station nearest you) and tell them you want to see "Invention & Alchemy" on PBS and be sure to tell them why! Check out our Fan Support One Sheet (pdf) for ideas and more information.

Meanwhile, to give you an idea of what stations might want to hear, here's a few things you could elaborate on:

- It's inspirational, filled with positive messages and a great role model for kids -- and adults!
- It's multi-generational: great for all ages!
- It showcases an amazing performer -- Deborah herself -- and an amazing collaborator -- an entire 80-piece orchestra!
- It speaks to anyone who has ever had a dream and wanted to wish that dream into being - the you inside of us all
!
- It is great for musicians just starting out - teaching them the value of following their own creative path - and for seasoned musicians looking for new inspiration!
- It's filled with songs, stories and music all written and performed by one very down-to-earth performer who plays an unlikely instrument (the electric harp), along with 80 of her talented friends: an entires symphony orchestra
