What we did:

DHC talked about how she started Harp Time Live Mar 24 2020

Today we’re looking at what we did in the first episode and adding to it.
Harps in the Key of C

Looked at combining two parts Melody and Chord Progression

Melody
C D E E D F
C D E E D
C D E E D F
E C D B C

Adding a Chord Progression (Don’t Get Caught Anywhere Don’t Get Caught)

D G C A D G C

We went back and forth between these two themes
Doing what we could and  don’t worry about getting it right
[LH] C. [RH] C D E E D F
[LH] G [RH] C D E E D
[LH] C [RH] C D E E D F
[LH] C G C [RH] E C D B C

Added alternate things to expand our playing.
Alternate section
D G C A D G C
– Can be simple as just doing these as Bass
– Doing Bass note then an arpeggio above them
– Do bass note then stride ( [LH]D – [RH]D, F-A(stride) )
– Bass then a Chord

DHC also talked about the Academy is opening up again for Registration we will be starting a new Quarter called Grounded Expansion towards the end of April and it’s a great time to join Hip Harp Academy.

We also celebrated that this was the 100th episode of Harp Time Live and had an afterchat where DHC and Academy Members talked about being apart of Hip Harp Academy and the Community found there.

The thing I love about this exercise, is I’ll try this with other simple melodies…..yes this is a structure to apply to anything we play 🙂
16:51:41 From sarah to Everyone:
I like the rhythm, I found it difficult with learning rhythms, that I do not known if I do it right.
16:52:11 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:
It was easier for me to keep up with you with 2 hand if I kept the simple melody in the right hand and argeggios 1-5-10 in left hand simplly

my fingers remembered (on dgca) how much they loved using the 3legged dog in the right hand and just a slap bass in the left in a sort of bossa

As long as i kept on the chords, I could pretty much play anything with the rhyuthm

Fun to feel the music and incorporate the patterns into the fingers.
17:16:10 From sarah to Everyone:
It is fun,to play along with repeating patorns. D_G-C_A experiment with. Putting flats in it. the groove grows with playing it a lot.

As a beginner, taking other methods, this is so freeing and inspiring! It is hard for me to follow you but I’ve learned to “let go”!

I had to just play simpler things that were easier to get fast.
17:26:45 From Anne Horton to Everyone:
I was astonished that it didn’t actually feel as sped up as I thought it would be – as long as I kept the left hand steady I could do literally anything with my right hand!
17:26:55 From Marguerite Davis to Everyone:
My mistakes were in the rearview before I could get stuck on them
17:27:22 From Laurie to Everyone:
Played fewer notes…. 🙂 and kept going….
