Today we are going to play the Blues.

Hip Harp Academy is open for enrollment go to https://www.hipharp.com/academy/

Our harps are tuned in the Key of C.
We are playing in D – Dorian.

It’s all about repetition, patterns and most of all having FUN!

DHC was using a Looper today and playing along to it using different Riff’s from the Blues Jam Harp Camp. You could mimick what DHC did or do your own thing.

Pentatonic Scale
(decending from Right Hand [Thumb – 1st finger – 2nd finger to Left Hand [Thumb – 1st finger – 2nd finger])
(RH) D –  C –  A    (LH) G –  F   –  D
T – 2f – 3f                      T – 2f – 3f

Raising the 4th (G to G#) Play around with notes
G# – A
G# – A – F

Bending the G to G#
You can do this slowly or quickly play around with the sound.

The power of pattern. Try different patterns and move them around. Don’t worry about the rhythm just have FUN and feel the music.

You can use a SLAP BASS (in your left hand)
D (slap) F (slap) G (slap) A (Slap) D – wait REPEAT

Playing 4ths in Pentatonic scale
 A+D, G+C, C+F, D+G.

Love call and respond! It worked fine for me.
16:46:55 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:
I got mixed up between the recording, you’re cal and respons and what I felt to do myself.

The backing track made the rhythmic groove clear and steady.
16:47:06 From diane giorgi to Everyone:
You can get lost in the beat because you don;t have to worry about the notes
16:48:03 From Faith to Everyone:
Knowing I can’t play fast (yet), I played the notes of the modal scale at half time or slower or in different order, and that worked fine.
16:48:03 From Elizabeth Murphy to Everyone:
I had so much fun watching you, I forgot I was supposed to play too…haha

16:56:22 From Sarah to Everyone:

That was very helpful and clear
17:06:42 From De Luna to Everyone:
it was so much fun, i let my self experiment
17:06:43 From Tara to Everyone:
I liked playing with the 4ths together (notes from the pentatonic, so there are 3 combinations).
17:06:51 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles (NM) to Everyone:
The faster tempo was a little more tricky to catch the response, but it still was good practice.
17:07:07 From Cherrie Mooney–(Bad Axe, MI USA) to Everyone:
I liked learning new ideas. Repeating the same pattern helped.
17:07:59 From Sarah to Everyone:

Finding it hard to avoid the E and the B and stat on the pentatonic

my mission today is to play both hands together to work on getting my left hand back in shape.
17:10:18 From Tara to Everyone:
Oops, I think there are four combinations of 4ths in the pentatonic. A+D, G+C, C+F, D+G.
17:12:55 From Julia’s iPad Pro 3 to Everyone:
I loved seeing you play the melody with your RH while resting your chin in your LH. …so cool 😎 & laid back bluesy!
17:21:14 From Faith to Everyone:
Just realized if I miss the next beat to repeat my motif, I can just breathe for a beat and it becomes a syncopated motif which I can keep for the next one or go back to playing the motif on every beat.
17:23:18 From Heather F to Everyone:
Yah there is so much music in the rests!
17:24:13 From Tara to Everyone:
Mostly I kept to the same 3 RH notes, but they weren’t always in the same order, even if I didn’t intend that. It was fine any old way.
17:24:30 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:
I was able to keep the rhythm, too, and I did “melody” in my left hand only
17:25:24 From iPhone to Everyone:
I liked the 8th on the Bass line.
It wasn’t really Hard to play with the melody with the right Hand.
