Where you learn to play from a lead-sheet, starting by creating the simplest version for Fledgling Players – and then expanding to reharmonization and embellishment — all from a simple leadsheet.<\/span><\/p>\n

We always follow the same formula in these Action Sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Learn to psych out the Lead Sheet and then ‘build it out’ <\/b>by creating a simple melody with simple accompaniment and bass<\/p>\n

2. Then learn to create a 5-part arrangement form<\/b>\u00a0with an intro, melody,\u00a0exploration<\/em>, melody and ending – a form\u00a0<\/span>that lets you extend and expand the piece with simple improv techniques.<\/p>\n

3. Fledgling players continue to play the piece in this simple, elegant way as I show more advanced players how to expand,<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>enhance and embellish the basic elegant form.<\/p>\n

You WILL be able to play this tune at your level by the end of the action session. Your mission: only go as far as you can technically,\u00a0keep playing it,<\/em>\u00a0and then take what you learned\u00a0and play it for your friends, family, audiences – because, regardless of your technical ability,<\/em> when you truly play the piece fluently\u00a0at your level of ability<\/em>,\u00a0 your friends, audience, clients, patients —\u00a0 will LOVE it!!!<\/p>\n

A CREATIVE ACTION SESSION is kind of like a play-along webinar that walks you through a<\/b>\u00a0creative process. The point is to be in ‘in action’ throughout the session so that you are actually playing the piece by the end of the session –\u00a0 instead of passively taking in information you plan to implement later.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

So we learn a CREATIVE PROCESS and APPLY it step, by step as we’re learning, so you can see<\/em> how it works and<\/em> put it into ACTION on your instrument\u00a0<\/span>in the moment.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

In this Action Session you learn to take a Lead-Sheet (or chord chart) of the tune “AULD LANG SYNE” <\/b>– and first ENRICH the melody with harmonies (based on the chord chart) – and then EXPAND the piece into a multi-part arrangement.<\/span><\/p>\n

I usually begin each Action Session by describing the process we’ll be using,<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>then I play it out in its\u00a0simplest<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>form … in a way that would be playable by a fledgling player (i.e. advanced beginner).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then we start expanding it,<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>first by adding techniques an intermediate player might use – and finally to techniques that advanced players might use, like extended chords, reharmonization.<\/p>\n

The beauty of working this way is that for each person, you only go as far as your brain feels comfortable,<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>knowing you can always go back later on and add more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That means that\u00a0<\/span>Fledgling Players<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>learn the basic idea, and continue to play the piece simply throughout the session.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Intermediate Players<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>continue to add concepts on the first level of expansion — and\u00a0<\/span>Advanced Players<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>can incorporate the most expanded and embellished ideas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Everyone plays the whole time, everyone can play the piece\u00a0at your own level<\/em> by the time the session is done<\/strong>\u00a0– you simply stop expanding the ideas at the point when you hit the limit of your brain or you abilities, knowing you can always go back later on and add more, depending on your experience and technique.<\/p>\n

The beauty is that the way you’re playing it by the end of the class is\u00a0great<\/em> – it’s basically an arrangement that was designed for your exact technical level –\u00a0because you developed it during the session.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to having ‘your own’ arrangement, everyone – regardless of level –\u00a0 develops a solid\u00a0foundation<\/em><\/b>\u00a0for SHARING the music,<\/strong> making CONNECTIONS with your audience – whether that’s family, clients or concert audience – and getting more and more creatively expressive. And everyone learns to have FUN using creative ideas to express yourself simply NOW – and know how to expand that expression later.<\/p>\n
