I arrived in Norfolk late Wednesday night and spent the day yesterday practicing, foraging for food, fixing my harp harness and exploring Norfolk.  I like arriving a day early before shows so I can get a sense of a town, meet people, find a health food store – and in Norfolk, find a free on-street piano to play.

I found this one on the way back to my hotel from a 2-mile trek to the health food store, sat down for 15 minutes and played, accompanied by sounds of construction and traffic.

I also got to see this great parking-space park that gets constructed and deconstructed each year next to Norfolk’s tiny – but well-attended dog park.

It’s exciting to be in a city that’s so committed to creative use of space and to the integration of the arts.  It’s also fun to walk around the city, see the contrast of old and new architecture all in an easily walkable distance.  I’ve only been here a day and I can’t wait to come back and spend more time here.

PHOTO above is by YuzhuZeng Photography – I couldn’t figure out how to just link to this photo of the park – I think/hope this link will take you to a collection that includes some more photos of it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jackietugman/22468675495/in/dateposted-public/

I hope I see you at one of the shows in this mini-tour either in Norfolk tonight or the S.F. Bay area day-after-tomorrow!
