We interrupt this post for an important message:
Hip Harp Academy
Presents an intro to Hip Harp Academy
Blues Jam HARP Challenge - July 1-8
Conducting my own piece with Eleanor as soloist was a pinnacle moment in my experience of the piece. The musicality, flair, passion and humor she brings to the piece brings it completely alive and it’s a thrill to watch that from my vantage point with baton in hand.
HARPISTS: Do YOU play Baroque Flamenco?
... then I'd love to hear your story and see a video of how you play it. Use this form to share your story and a video from YouTube and I'll feature it in a blogpost like the ones you can link to below.
Do you WANT to play Baroque Flamenco?
The solo harp sheet music includes 3 levels: advanced beginner, intermediate & professional. Other versions include harp ensemble, piano/harp duo (piano reduction), concerto and upcoming chamber ensemble versions.
My online class "Baroque Flamenco Beyond the Page" takes you through the piece step by step at all 3 levels, with videos of all the sections and special effects, breakdowns (to show you how the piece is put together) and a set of warmups to help you develop the rhythms.

Such flair indeed! The magnificence of character, rhythm and Latin beat weaving such a tapestry of brilliance, it was astonishing! As Eleanor began slapping the soundboard, I could see a horse all decked out in jeweled finery prancing in the center of a ring; and then suddenly there were two horses, with their riders guiding them in tango-like rhythm, as they danced and pranced in seductive maneuvers. Clap, clap and Ole! Stomp, stomp and Ole! Harp, boots and baton. Bring it on! Bring it on! Bravo! Ole!
Hah, Barbara! I LOVE your image of the horses and it was soooo appropos! One of the performers in my “Harness Your Muse” program just used this very piece – and that very point in the piece – to illustrate a performance that included a horse … but with a very different outcome than you described. I think you will especially enjoy this part of Teddy Jones’ musical memoire that uses “Baroque Flamenco” as the underlying music, about his opening night in the opera ‘Carmen’: https://youtu.be/x9Pvp1q69Yk?t=34m29s
