The countdown is on! Just 2 days until my concert at Harp Center Los Angeles — and it got me thinking about what people imagine when they hear the words harp music.
Most people picture classical music — something beautiful, relaxing, and predictable. Which is exactly why they’re often surprised when they come to one of my concerts.
While we were putting together the concert promotion, we found ourselves asking: What actually happens at Deborah’s shows?
Music, of course. But over the years, my shows always include stories, humor, surprises and improvisation. (Watch this short clip to see how audience members describe their experience.) And sometimes there are moments that change the course of an evening entirely.
In fact, one of those unexpected moments eventually became my TEDx Talk. An audience member asked me a question about my harp, I answered it on the spot, and someone from the TEDx committee happened to be sitting in the audience that night.
That’s the thing about live performances: you never know where the evening will lead.
I’ve been especially excited about this concert because Los Angeles is where I went to high school. Friends from different parts of my life will be there — old classmates, people from my entrepreneurial communities, members of Hip Harp Academy, and hopefully a few people I’ve never met before.
