Dear Friends & Fans, Yowza! 2008 is starting with a bang! My music special "Invention & Alchemy" is airing on WLIW / Ch. 21 in New York Sunday Jan. 13 from 3:55 to 4:55 (Hey, it's PBS, they can air whenever they want) so tell all your friends in New York. This is a "standard" PBS broadcast so it's totaly FREE - none of those exciting pledge breaks (actually, I had fun filming the pledge breaks). I love this show! You get to SEE the cutest bass player ever playing a blues solo with his bow (instead of plucking the strings like most Blues players). You get to HEAR bona fide classical musicians playing on garbage cans. And you get to WATCH a Grammy-nominated orchestra play in my huge musical sandbox with me! And best of all, it's all my music, my stories -- one of my greatest dreams -- to play my own music with a big symphony orchestra! On TV! It makes me feel like a cross between Danny Kaye, George Gershwin and Tina Turner (I wish!!). If you can't see the show, come to the website for video and audio clips and lots of photos. So, I've written to Oprah a bunch of times now telling her about my song "Congratulations! You Made It This Far!" and telling her she's GOTTA let me sing it to her with her audience on her birthday later this month. She hasn't called yet, but to all of you who wrote to her last month, MUCHAS GRACIAS! I have my fingers crossed (except when I'm playing) -- and if you haven't written to her, it's not too late! In other news, we just re-released the Birthday-Card-CD-Single we call the "Congratulations" Card (details on the sale below) after years of it being out of print because we couldn't find a printer who could deal with my complicated design. So I finally bit the bullet, redesigned it and now they're available again! I'm also very excited about the show I'm working on with my brilliant new collaborator, Linda Goldstein (more on that later this year), and I'm off to France in February to pick up my NEW ultra-light carbon-fibre harp from my friends at the CAMAC harp company (I'll take photos of it to show you -- it has FLAMES on it!) So, life is good. And, oh, I have upcoming live shows in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, France and NYC -- there's details about all that below. Thanks to everyone who emailed about Private Soirees. We were thrilled with the response and ... actually ... a little overwhelmed. Didn't expect inquiries from so far and wide, but it was great! So bear with us as we get back to you. OPRAH about DEBORAH! We've told Oprah, like, a gazillion times that Deborah wants to personally sing "Congratulations! You Made It This Far!" to her on her birthday. "Congratulations" is the song Deborah wrote for herself on her 40th birthday and it's a great singalong, with an upbeat, inspiring message. It's also really fun to sing. For everyone who submitted this Story Idea to Oprah last month -- A BIG THANK YOU! To everyone else, just follow the directions below and once we get the message through, maybe Oprah will give us a ring! HOW TO CONTACT OPRAH: Go to Oprah's Story Idea Page and tell her why Deborah should personally sing "Congratulations!" together with the studio audience on Oprah's birthday (January 29th).
