Lodging Guide: Hotels, Inns & B&Bs Near 26 Linwood Street Arlington, MA

 

DHC’s Lodging Notes:

HOTELS:  There are 3 hotel options in and near Arlington, MA.

• Homewood Suites in Arlington, Massachusetts – it’s about a mile from DHC’s place – and you can walk on the street or you can take a wooded path to the Minuteman bike/walk trail that leads direct to DHC’s place
• AC Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts – it’s actually easier to walk to this hotel than to drive to it! It’s connected to the Minuteman bike/walk trail that leads direct to DHC’s place by a short meadow path (then a 1 mile walk on the Minuteman Trail to DHC’s)
• Freepoint Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts – this is more urban. You ‘could’ walk to DHC’s studio from here, but it wouldn’t be as fun. But it’s next to a small shopping mall that includes Whole Foods, Trader Joes, a Staples Business center, etc. And across the street from the “Fresh Pond” reservoir where many people walk and run.  This hotel is not well-connected via public transport.

INN: This Inn seems to be very well-liked and is on the 77 bus line:

• A Cambridge House Inn: A lovely turn of the century Victorian offering both Victorian and contemporary-style rooms. The contemporary style rooms are located in the next door guest house, while the Victorian rooms are located in the Main House and Carriage House. All rooms are equipped with private baths, cable television and Wi-Fi. Many of our Victorian rooms have fireplaces; all rooms have air conditioning during the summer months. Rates include parking (limited; first come basis) and a deluxe continental breakfast.

In Harvard Square (Cambridge, Massachusetts)

Harvard Square may not look like it’s convenient to DHC’s studio, but from the Harvard Square “T” (Transit) station, you can get the 77 Bus directly DHC’s house, or take the “Red Line” subway direct to Alewife Station, which is the start of the Minuteman Bike/Walk trail – a 1 mile walk to DHC’s studio

• Irving House B&B:  A local secret and beloved Inn, owner run with various options.  Near Harvard Square
• Charles Hotel – this is well-known Harvard Square hotel, with good dining options both in the hotel and near the hotel – but definitely not a budget hotel.

AIR BNBs:

There are usually plenty of Air BnBs within walking or driving distance of DHC’s studio.

To see how close an AirBnB is to DHC’s place, we usually look at the AirBnb map for this funny-shaped lake – because the studio/house is right where the green circle is on this picture.

TRANSPORTATION ACCESS POINTS:

• The “Red Line” “T” or Subway: Runs from South Station or Park Street direct to “Alewife Station,” the head of the Minuteman Trail, which takes you (1 mile via foot or bike) directly to the studio
• Alewife “T” Station (Subway): It’s the “end of the line” for the “Red Line” and lets you out at the head of the Minuteman Trail, which takes you (1 mile via foot or bike) directly to the studio
• Harvard Square “T” Station (Subways & Busses):  the station where you can change from the Red Line to the 77 Bus
• Porter Square Station (Subways & Busses):  is another Red Line station where you can exit the subway station and get the 77 Bus (it’s actually less confusing to do this than to try to find the bus in Harvard Station)
• Massachussetts Avenue runs between Harvard Square and Arlington – it’s the main connecting road and the studio is just 2 blocks off Massachussetts Avenue (which is often called “Mass Ave”)
• Minuteman Trail: Any location that has access to the Minuteman trail allows you to get to the studio via foot or bike, because the studio is right on the trail
• 77 Bus route: Runs along Massachusetts Avenue from Harvard Square directly to the corner of the street DHC’s studio is on
