Structure is Freedom – Part 1: The Power of Standard Arrangement Forms

Open House & Campus Tour
Tue. Oct. 7th – 3:30 pm EDT

We kick off the week with an Open House & Campus Tour! Hip Harp Academy offers a FULL-Level year-long program to develop your repertoire and improvisation skills. It teaches you how to improvise on the fly, how to take any simple melody and create a full arrangement of it, or ‘open it up’ for therapeutic playing. And in this special session, I’ll give you a tour inside the Academy!

New ‘Hip Harp IMPROV Toolkit’
Wed. Oct. 8th – 10:30 am EDT

In the new “Hip Harp IMPROV Toolkit,” you’ll see how this improved take on the beloved Hip Harp toolkit class is transformed into an exciting game on how to create a whole repertoire of inventive, fun solo arrangements using the “Arrange Yourself” formula. Get the principles behind turning ANY simple melody into a complete arrangement on the spot—at your own skill level.

Intro to ‘Jazz for Harps’
Thu. Oct. 9th – 3:30 pm EDT

This intro shows you how to experience the freedom of jazz improvisation on the harp. You’ll get a peek on how to add jazzy chords to your playing, improvising from a lead sheet, and re-styling tunes to give them rhythm. You’ll also get familiar on how to be able to enrich the harmony of any tune you play.

Structure is Freedom – Part 2: The Musical Shorthand of Lead Sheets
Sun. Jul. 27th – 3:30 pm EDT

You’ll learn how simple creative structures support creative experiences of freedom in music. You’ll also get familiar with snippets and lead sheets. Snippets are tiny patterns that help you improvise and create music and lead sheets are simplified parts that help you apply the standard arrangement form.
