One time around the block, very basic form, one handed – trying to overcome bruised shoulder and ribs. I don’t sing in front of people, so submitting humming/lalas to go with my left hand is progress for me. I wish I could have presented the lush chords and melodies I played the last few weeks, but I worked with what I had.

Tell me what’s working, if anything

Is there anything else you want me to know about your video?

I’m playing with just my left arm, I bruised my right shoulder and ribs. I couldn’t get through it more than one time, but I wanted to see what I could do with one hand.

Do you want feedback on your homework (this may mean that it gets shown during the chat) (see the note below about this choice)

In this video I’m playing the chorus of “Somebody loves me” from George Gershwin.

What do you think about it? What could I improve? I play the descending bassline in the bridge only with the thumb. Is this possible? This week I will start with the improvisation.

Inside Jazz Tunes
start 23 seconds in to shorten to one time through.
This is the 96bpm swing/latin drum beat. I’m playing RH Pivot – LH slap #4. Excuse the mess, I needed to be able to reach the computer and also my Thormahlen has a busted string.
Oddly enough, I found the Latin easier to do than the Swing. My mom sang a slot of swing tunes, (a la “Up A Lazy River”) so I thought that was weird.

I don’t know if you can tell, but as the pivot grew wider and I wanted to switch the lower finger, it kept messing me up. Suggestions on what do to about that?

Swing/Latin rhythm practice. I used “chord & bass 04” except I changed the key to Bb/Gm. Its the key I sing Autumn leaves.

My query is between the swing and latin:  latin is more syncopated? using more notes accentuate the rhythm?

I have worked the 04 chord & bass before but not on the electric harp. Its different. I really have to get my thumb up to play what I think is the Latin rhythm. Im getting closer to that I think.  I set the F# (Im in Bb/Gm) so I didnt have to think about it . Am I finding the difference in rhythms? I did work with the different speed backing tracks – after that (whew) workout, I really wanted to see if Im close to understanding the difference as I fall into tango rhythm so easily.

Is there anything else you want me to know about your video?

I always wear a hat on a bad hair day!;)

In this video I tried to use some of the rhythms from the work sheets and to have some different atmospheres.
I had a melody in my head and I tried to sing it while playing.
I only play and sing at the same time when I am sure no one can hear me… I thought I had to try and dare for the video…

What do I need to do to have the right balance in notes and tone between harp and voice? Keep singing in tune while playing?

What can I do to be able to feel comfortable doing this maybe on stage (after improving a bit…)?

Is there anything else you want me to know about your video?

This is the very first time I share something voice and harp with people that are not my husband or daughter….. it feels a bit scary, but also very uplifting to have done so…..

Two choruses of the short roadmap where I’m trying to differentiate a swing feel and a Latin feel in the two sections.

I’m using a stride bass in my left hand & improvising in my right. I was going for a Swing feel the first time through and a Latin the second time. Not sure I was successful so what might I do get to get the right feeling. I always feel very classical when I play so I find these styles difficult for me to get the feel and groove.
