The “Inside Jazz Tunes” Homework was to use the ii-V-I, improvise with or without rhythm to the following keys in 45 seconds. C to F to Amin to C.
The “Blues Harp Style” homework was to make a short video of the Blues that includes a count-in, a Head (Melody with Bass), 1 chorus of comping (or improvising), an Out-Head (Melody & Bass), and a final chord.

I’m just ‘dipping my feet in the water.’ Sorry my harp isn’t as visible in the video, but my real reason was just to force myself to video tape myself. I did an extremely simple 12 bar blues, improvising the words from one of my favorite cat memes/cartoon – Kitty cat Blues. Rather silly, but I’m just trying to loosen up.

I have extreme stage fright – I don’t like to be on camera, or sing out loud in front of people. DHC seems so relaxed when she does her impromptu things – I forced myself to do this even though I’m really nervous. Coaching? Just need to do it and show it and maybe become more comfortable doing it.
Is there anything else you want me to know about your video?
I didn’t go for fancy harp work, it’s really simplified. Again mostly did it to force myself to be on camera. And hopefully not cringe too bad when people look at it.

In this video I improvise from key C to F to Am and back to C.

This homework was really difficult for me. The fast moving of the levers is very challenging. Is there any way to make the leaver changing easier and more fluent?
and also, my right hand was challenging because of the keys that changed. in the practice Sometimes I played the note that I changed the lever at and also notes that were not in the key. Do you have any advice on how to deal with this?

Trying to coordinate left and right hand, singing and getting a feeling for the groove. I would like to know what is working and if I got the rhythm of the slap bass right. I also had problems in the timing during the passage from first (melody) part to the second (comping) part.

I keep some kind of a groove playing with slap-bass and comping, but as soon as my right hand enters with a melody, I seem to lose it and both my slap-bass and the melody get all fuddled.

How to keep the groove, while playing a melody? That’s the question I would love to have coaching on.

I used the roadmap for Blue Bossa to attempt a chorus of comping and a chorus of improvisation.

I feel short of comping ideas. I attempted a Bossa for the comping but am not sure of I have the rhythm. I’m also wondering what other patterns I might use. When I accompany myself while improvising, I find tend to go for stride. So again, I could use some suggestions on other LH patterns might work.

I always feel like it’s too classical and lacking a groove or Jazz feel.
