This week’s Homework for “Strings of Passion” was to go through the Clarify Your Vision Process, attend at least one of the Blueprint sessions, create a drawing to represent the Blueprint you’ve chosen, and create a short video of any simple tune using the Blueprint.

This is a rough pass at combing my prayer practice with music. The prayer portion is all in the beginning, it ends with the A part of the nightingale.

It feels very strange in my tradition to record this and share it this way, so I’d rather this not go on face book or used in other ways than the learning here. Thank you.

TELL ME WHAT YOU NEED COACHING ON. Provide specific questions here so I know what you want me to give you feedback on. Remember, I’m not grading or assessing your work – I’m coaching – and I can only do that if I know what you’re TRYING to do, so I can gear my coaching to help you achieve that.

I want to know what is and is not working. When I’m playing the intro and doing the prayers, should the music be more varied? Do you have tips for speaking and playing at the same time? I don’t want to stop playing while I’m speaking the prayers because the music helps carry their momentum. Thank you. I hope this isn’t too strange for you and everyone!

Briefly describe your video and how it relates to the prompts and ideas in the course.

This is an idea for a game we could play: share a conducting video of yourself, no talking, just conducting, no explanations.
Who ever feels inspired can play or sing to the conducting and record or film herself and share it saying to which conductor one was playing.

Those who are very skilled in video editing could even make a split screen video with both videos in one.

Of course in reality it would be much more fun because usually the conductor also follows to what the “orchestra” is playing, it usually is a constant shift between leading and following, but here we can unfortunately only do it one way.

It was really painful to feel how much I miss the real leader/followership of direct artistic communication with others, especially with my students and workshop participants. It is as if I am locked in for one year now, isolated, only with virtual contact, wich is like dead food that seems to take away the feeling of hunger but does not nurture, like a Hamburger from a fast-food store.

Special Project – Looper

IMPULSE -I wrote this soon after breaking my wrist. A bit of a therapy song I suppose to keep myself optimistic.

All levers down except for all the C’s. What key would that be?

Rubato introduction over Bb/Eb then F/E

Looping a rhythmic comp patter/ Bass/ Mini Riff (I ha fun with the character this added)

STRUCTURE – I think i need quite a bit of help here

Ignore me forgetting the words. I hate writing lyrics and not very good at remembering them …. clearly.

~As always, its great to hear what is working and any ideas you have to add or change.

I feel like its not really going anywhere and feels very repetitive. I was trying to keep it simple and exercise bringing different loops in and out. But it just all feels same same with out much diversity. Do you think this is ok or is it missing something?

The ending felt quite awkward. I didn’t really know how to get out.

Does it feel like karaoke as I tend to either sing or play when using the looper? I feel like I should be using the looper and playing the harp and singing at the same time. Does it really matter?

I have a hard time writing lyrics as it always makes me cringe a little but I just had to with this one as it was like and encouragement to myself but not sure if it flows very well

Really enjoyed using my new DHC. Not sure if i have the sound quite right yet but working on it. Loved my backdrop too. It’s a padded upholstered back wall. Works a treat and permanently there which is very handy.

This is a first version of the Baroque Flamenco Blueprint you taught us today. I really had fun playing around with this piece.

Just tell me what is working. I made the video just a few hours after the lesson and honestly didn’t think much about adding character, I just let it happen.

The good news is, for once I didn’t even think about adding something difficult or fancy, this really is me playing on or even below my skill level and just enjoying the music.
And yay, it also is under 90 seconds!

This is my first attempt at storytelling with the harp. As you instructed in the webinar, I used the first piece I ever memorized. I also just got a new screen for my background.

This is a video of a blueprint for creativity – the Strings of Passion blueprint. The form is ABA – Interlude – A – coda. In the ABA, I sang the tune, then B is the just vocalized and the next A is just harp.

I had quite a lot of trouble getting it down in length, I had 2 other versions but they were each over 3 min, I play slowly, so it is just impossible to get get everything in even 2 minutes.

I made some mistakes and I just let them go by.

I tried to do the Baroque Flamenco first with this and wasted a lot of time. Can I send you one of those privately. I just was not happy with that format with this song.

This is my Rondo BluePrint homework. In the interest of time I did not take any of the repeats or interludes. *-A-B-B’-A-*

So bizarre that obviously I have more trouble with the melody than the vamp…I tried to take on 2 characters, but I had trouble maintaining that when I needed to focus more on the playing… 🙁
Is it bad that there is a short dead space between the characters?

I had fun thinking about it and planning it. I was happy to figure out how to do the Bossa in 4 measures as well as the usual 8!

Lol, the first one was much better. 😀 Too bad I turned the camera off instead of on. This one, noise everywhere and I’m easily distracted, too much hesitancy, often lacks conviction when I’m speaking, and, y’know. But good practice for live shows!

Oh, it’s too long for homework and even a bit long for a video, but shorter than I’d probably do it in a show. And I played all of Twinkle in the middle but had to cut it out because of fridge noises! Which turned out fairly ok in terms of balance, I think.

On the left was my first try – the vision of what I would like to be able to do in 2-3 years. This tool was so helpful for me in clarifying my goals that right after completing it, I started again with something completely different, more concrete and for a shorter time period. I wanted to find a way to get all my things, my harp playing and my animals together and DHC gave me the idea of playing with an old harp among them. This stuck with me, and I hope that by autumn as a birthday present for my husband, who loves the blues, I can finish a small video of my mucking out blues. I am very thankful for the “clarify your vision” worksheet. It is something I could do over and over again.

Hello!

This is a poem I wrote a while ago about the frustration of wanting to share things I’d created/written but not doing it! I’ve never really figured out a format of what to do with the poem, but the improv sessions we’ve been doing seemed to bring it to life again.

The exercise we did a few weeks back where we watched each others videos and analysed out own reactions was super helpful, and it meant that when I watched/listened back to my own work, I was able to be far less critical and look for what I loved. And as a result, I’m so excited about this video.

That said, if anyone knows a good way to make the sound of my own breathing less intrusive in recordings, I’d be grateful to hear it. BUT, usually that would stop me sharing. NOT TODAY!

Hope the poem encourages you all too, as you have all encouraged me with what you’ve shared of yourselves. I was in the academy before, but didn’t get half as much as I could have out of it because I didn’t share a single video, for fear of them not meeting my expectations, so this is such progress.

Something in this video does not feel right …it’s supposed to be a Valentine, but my address was too “ constipated” hahah…
I feel vulnerable , maybe this is not the right song for me to play?i

I put my own chords in, maybe C6 is repeated too many times, it feels too syrupy, does not feel like Valentine, it’s more a lullaby.
What gives me the feeling I’m hiding? Or it’s just my impression of me?
Are these the right chords? I tried to avoid levers.

Somehow I feel that playing nicely is not enough, what’s missing? Or what should be changed?

This is an attempt at a short suite using the 3 of motifs from the Bluerpint class.

I think my problem is that I feel clueless. I understand that I’ve been given a structure upon which to work, but my reaction is a bit of what comes after that. Should I have a plan when it comes to noodling? I feel that all I’m doing is running scales up & down the harp with a tad of embellishment. It feels kind of indulgent. I’m probably overthinking this.

I’ve been living in sweat pants pretty much since the beginning of quarantine so you’re seeing the real me.
