Briefly describe your video and how it relates to the prompts and ideas in the course.

Usually I accompany a story teller, she has the word part and I play the music, and if she is ill I tell the stories, but in German, to do it all in English was a very awkward feeling because I had to think about what I was going to say instead of just letting it flow.
Interesting experience, it does not feel as authentic as when I produce Videos in German ;o).

Sorry for the poor sound quality! I was running late so I just recorded it on my phone. Similarly i know the angle might not be great.  It was fun to return to such a simple piece that I can play in my sleep – and for that to be okay!

I found the story quite boring, but my story of when I first played a harp too complicated – so I guess I’d like coaching more on how you craft a story than how you pair with the harp playing.

When it came to playing the tune, I reverted to just chords and singing. I felt a bit frozen when it came to actually trying to play the tune as well as singing. I knew the tune in my head but I couldn’t get it out through my fingers.

IMPULSE -I wrote this soon after breaking my wrist. A bit of a therapy song I suppose to keep myself optimistic.

I feel like its not really going anywhere and feels very repetitive. I was trying to keep it simple and exercise bringing different loops in and out. But it just all feels same same with out much diversity. Do you think this is ok or is it missing something?

The ending felt quite awkward. I didn’t really know how to get out.

Does it feel like karaoke as I tend to either sing or play when using the looper? I feel like I should be using the looper and playing the harp and singing at the same time. Does it really matter?

I have a hard time writing lyrics as it always makes me cringe a little but I just had to with this one as it was like and encouragement to myself but not sure if it flows very well.

Really enjoyed using my new DHC. Not sure if i have the sound quite right yet but working on it. Loved my backdrop too. It’s a padded upholstered back wall. Works a treat and permanently there which is very handy.

This is an attempt of telling a story with music. Since I don’t really remember the first time I ever saw a harp, I chose to talk about the first time I ever played a harp.

The piece I’m playing is my latest composition called “Seelenstreichler” which means “Soul Caress”.
I played the whole piece in the end. That’s what makes the video so long. The story part is a bit longer then 90 seconds.

I tend to rarely look at the audience while playing, I’m mostly caught in the music myself, should I look up that more often?

This is a story with the harp of one of the times that the harp first called to me. I should have given credit in the video that Stan McDaniels was the English professor who wrote the song.

I notice that my eyes are darting around, partly because I don’t have the song memorized and maybe nerves?

Also, I use a large Ipad to video and when on landscape the camera is on the very left or right. Should I look directly at the little camera when I am speaking?

It was really fun to do this and I have been inspired to use this template in other ways. Just shared a poem with  harp interspersed with words last night at a zoom poetry bday party. I lLOVED doing it. And really didn’t care what anyone else thought cause I loved it so much. This is a first for me!

The song I played is “Blind Mary”, an O’Carolan tune.  It is one of the first tunes I played on the harp.  Doing that tune today, I realized how restricting it is to be locked to a page of music.  I never memorized the tune, so even though it is simple, I struggled to play it as written.  I made a couple “mistakes” which I tried to cover up as I kept going.  What I want feedback on is my choice of segments of the tune and whether or not the musical segments were in harmony with the narrative.

It was a challenge to do the assignment video in about 90 seconds, but I think that was a good challenge.  I didn’t try to explain why I chose Blind Mary, because I wanted to keep the video length within 90 seconds and why I chose it would have been another story in itself.

This is the homework for “Story Music Blueprint”.  There are 7 “Beats” beginning with a musical phrase that “prefigures” the tune that is played in full in the final beat.  The musical prefiguring phrase is repeated 3 times as it alternates with short spoken segments where a story unfolds.

This was my very first take! (nothing short of a miracle considering how many takes I usually do!!!).  I decided to use it – despite the mistakes in my playing which I think I managed to cover up okay (by just keeping on going as if that was how it was supposed to sound!).  I felt that the natural flow and emotion of the speaking might become compromised with further takes even though the harp playing would’ve got better.

I dimmed the light and had the camera closer than usual – even though this meant not all of my left hand was in the picture the whole time – the tradeoff was an increased sense of intimacy and softness – suited to the lullaby theme.

This is the story of the first song I tried to play on the harp. This is a song I can no longer play in context and just thinking about doing this as homework had me up crying in the middle of the night. I only made one recording. I kept missing dropping down to the A chord and simplified it on the fly. I also ended up with a little extra beat: I lost the starting pitch and played a little bit before the last sentence in beat 6 rather than replay the intro, so I guess I didn’t follow the formula exactly, but this is what came out.

I actually had to cut up a copy of the music and piece together snippets that I thought worked.  The parts don’t really follow the order that they appear in the piece. Is that common and did it work here?

Had troubles where to look while talking. When I look at myself while filming with the phone, I’m not looking directly at the camera. And when I look at the small spot where the lens is all the time it feels unnatural.

I don’t know how to transition between the themes.  I used editing software effects to make the transitions visual.  I did not watch the blueprint prior to doing this video.

On a lever harp : How do you do those fancy glisses after the soundboard percussion part ? There’s a C# and Cb changes.

Equipment :  I used my laptop camera and it came out blurry. What kind of computer camera do you use ?

In March, I plan to invest in better sound and audio equipment.  Can you share what you use ?

I started ‘ The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron about three weeks ago…first listening to the audio book and now have bought the workbook – i’ve gotten the first week done and doing daily Morning Pages. Since i have identified important monsters I am feeling freer.  I heard you mention about this in a masterclass.
