Chat Feed - (4:30 pm ET Chat)

16:28:40 From Lawrence Johnson to Everyone:

I can’t hear the harp. Is it just me?

16:31:18 From Jan Kingston to Everyone:

    Yes! I can hear. 🙂

16:31:23 From Shelley Johnson-Garstin to Everyone:

Hi All and thank you for letting me join you today.  I’m having computer issues but can see y’all 🙂

16:31:49 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

Great to have you here, Shelley

16:34:07 From Carol Booth to Everyone:

Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!  I’m travelling again, 6.30am on winters morning here in Australia, so it’s cold. So yes, I’m in bed (at my sisters), but I have my little Hayden harp with me.   Looking forward to Natalians.

16:39:22 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

    LH E F G#, RH – BD – easiest fingering

16:39:39 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

The first one works best for me because it’s what I’m used to

16:40:25 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

2 notes in each hand DF then right. Like a reel…

16:40:46 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

I like E in the LH and FGB in the RH because it’s quick to grab.  I also like the 4-finger RH, it’s just less automatic.

16:40:57 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I play the octave LH then the F,G#,D,B (4,3,2,1) alternating the RH & LH. But I’m used to it that way. Been playing the piece for many years and I find this the easiest pattern for me.

16:42:04 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Gives you the chance to do a bisbig …

16:42:21 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I like how you broke down the chord and showed how dropping out the D still makes it the same chords.

16:42:41 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    🙂

16:47:04 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

All you need is the pattern, where you start and end, and how many times you do it and the direction .. for me …

16:48:05 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Where can we get the sheet music?

16:50:06 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    Top note drops..

16:51:04 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Would suggest p to mf to p

16:51:58 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    🙂

16:54:46 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

It helps to know that the half notes are the melody.

16:55:23 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

Much easier to bring out the melody with this fingering than what is in the score.

16:55:42 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

    Much easier

16:55:51 From Midge Jambor to Everyone:

Helpful to call out notes for us weak note readers

16:56:36 From heather flinn to Everyone:

    Dissonance resolving to consonance —oooohlala

16:56:46 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Not confused, but if you then changed the direction of the left, need to try it, but change the direction of the LH?

16:57:43 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

But it won’t help with Nataliana. A different idea ..

16:57:44 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

The melody is in the thumb, the shape is the same in both hands

16:58:08 From mona to Everyone:

Can’t see the music as you moved fown

16:58:19 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

I find it helpful to block the chords.  It helps me recognize what I’m playing.

17:02:10 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

Yes, block chords make it even easier for muscle memeory

17:02:46 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Sorry Deborah, I just had another moment for an improv …

17:05:29 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

I am placing the same shape and octave in both hands using the thumb for the melody. And moving the shape down

17:05:39 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

It then moves down chromatically one string at a time …

17:06:49 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

The first beat in each measure is the strongest.

17:06:51 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    Fern amazing

17:07:45 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

You are doing great. I could have used you 18 years ago

17:07:49 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Just have to say you look awesome and that scarf is beautiful

17:11:17 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

The shape is the same. No dots required. Just know the number of repeats … maybe ..

17:15:03 From mona to Everyone:

My hands do not keep the same pattern as I move down

17:15:10 From Carol Booth to Everyone:

Amazing!  a six note arpeggio sounds almost the same as the original 8 note arpeggio!

17:15:26 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

In my RH I placed the whole chord but only played the thumb and used the rest of the fingers as an anchor.  That seemed to help me place the LH more accurately.

17:15:35 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

It feels like such a beautiful rolling feeling

17:15:43 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Descending left .. and keep the melody

17:16:49 From Fern Nelson to Everyone:

I can play the block chords along with your voice and have the right chords.  I need to practice the chords before I go on

17:17:21 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Any possibility of backing up the camera so we can the whole thing

17:17:33 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

The change of direction is really important

17:18:06 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    Ascending, descending ..

17:20:01 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

    3rd

17:20:47 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

So, the melody is now tied instead of separate?

17:24:39 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Hang on to the melody line as well..

17:27:50 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

The melody, for me, is the core of the piece xxx

17:31:50 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

It was lovely to play with eyes closed, feeling quite safe as the hands had such defined muscle memory.

17:31:55 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

Anchoring the last note when moving rest of fingers down

17:32:23 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Personally, so used to hearing a descending bass, when it is in the the top, It’s what makes your music magic Deborah. Tx you 🎶🎶

17:33:03 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

This is so beautiful and doable with some practice.  It’s easy to memorize Patterns of chord just going down one at a time and the thumb keeps the melody

17:33:30 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Super fun to improvise on this – 2 easy chords and just go crazy

17:33:32 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Will be be able to get the sheet music

17:33:50 From Tovelah Hirsch to Everyone:

Reacted to “This is so beautiful…” with 💌

17:34:05 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

Gotta confess I’m having rhythm issues when playing with just 3 notes in the arpeggio vs.4

17:34:29 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Do I start taking snap shots lol lol. Or give us the link

17:35:09 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

I’m with you, Sally.  That’s partly why I’m only arpeggiating the LH.

17:35:10 From Wendy Savage to Everyone:

So beautiful! I’m excited to get this in my mind and hands…the feel etc. So gorgeous!

17:35:26 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Tell us the back story  or genesis of this piece

17:35:32 From Deborah Henson-Conant to Everyone:

    Connie – here’s the sheet music : https://dhc.gumroad.com/l/dILI

17:35:52 From Rhen to Everyone:

Here’s where you can get “Nataliana (PDF Download of Sheet Music for Lever or Pedal Harp)” – https://dhc.gumroad.com/l/dILI

17:36:57 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

    Thank You, that was easy.

17:38:18 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Is there a recording of you playing

17:38:36 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I love that this is a viable concert piece for the lever harp

17:38:39 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

    Also in Naked Music

17:39:00 From Carol Booth to Everyone:

Sally, is there a recording of you playing it?

17:39:06 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I just posted a recording in the Academy Facebook page. Not perfect but you get the gist.

17:39:26 From Betty, Webster NY to Everyone:

    I sent one to Sally

17:39:26 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

But, especially on a harp, there’s no such thing as a wrong note xxx

17:39:45 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

The Essential DHC #1 Instrumental is where I found Nataliana audio

17:39:51 From Cherie Maffey to Everyone:

Will you show us 72 measure, as it seems different again.

17:40:01 From Carol Booth to Everyone:

    Have you a link Ruth?

17:40:07 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

I have to say, when we order your music, it does come so complete with all levels too.

17:40:27 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

No, sorry Carol, I bought the CD years ago.

17:41:12 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I also love that I can put this in A flat harmonic minor when I play it on the pedal harp. Really opens up the harp.

17:42:53 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

    Very little

17:44:02 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

    Wow that worked

17:45:26 From Annie Jones to Deborah Henson-Conant(Direct Message):

Way past my bed time..Oliver Wass on harp at 11am, then Jess Gillam in the evening on sax. Can I do a replay? …..

17:49:03 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Signing out. Tx for the inspiration xxx

17:58:00 From heather flinn to Everyone:

Gotta run…..this was FUN….no no no it was SUPERFUN!

18:03:11 From Jan Kingston to Everyone:

Have to take off!  Beautiful.  Very fun.  thank you, DHC. <3

18:04:44 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

Lovely progression and I love that the hand shapes and positions change gradually.

18:04:54 From mona to Everyone:

I’m in love again! Not sure if I have it, but is sounds full and ssmmmoooooooottthh

18:04:59 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Can you purchase this course separate like the nightingale

18:07:25 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

I was just using my right hand and thumb until I get the melody and taking the right hand up for the ending.  The left hand I’ll work on my own

18:12:49 From mona to Everyone:

Could we just have the notes from the bottom up? Totally could not catch this yet

18:14:32 From mona to Everyone:

    I screenshot thank you

18:15:22 From Shelley Johnson-Garstin to Everyone:

    practice!  LOL

18:15:39 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

I like to call the shapes pinch and skips

18:15:43 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

I keep my eyes on the F and G for each

18:16:05 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Reacted to “I keep my eyes on th…” with ❤️

18:16:11 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

I find the part I need to practice is looking to place one hand before the other one has played all the notes.

18:19:11 From Connie LoPorto to Everyone:

Gotta run, this was once again wonderful.  Thank You Deborah

18:22:16 From Joan Davidson to Everyone:

Thank you. Must go . Looking forward to doing this again

18:23:37 From Cherie Maffey to Everyone:

It’s just so doable going through this and making the chords easier using 3 fingers.

18:24:05 From Carol Booth to Everyone:

Thank you…. This is a piece that I would never have dreamed of attempting and after today I can see that parts of it are within my reaach

18:24:13 From Tovelah Hirsch to Everyone:

Very understandable, Originally I thought this was not yet for me. Absolutely Beautifully taught! Looking forward. Thank You

18:24:49 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

I need to remember starting chords (every few bars), but then the pattern flows very naturally.  Also, the chords are rich enough that a “wrong” note often fits anyway.

18:24:51 From Wendy Savage to Everyone:

You actually made this feel more accessible.  When you look at all the notes you can get a bit overwhelmed but then the patterns really worked.  So excited about this.

18:26:01 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

I love the story of you writing a piece for your audition and that being easier than learning music written by someone else.

18:27:44 From mona to Everyone:

I love this style of teaching, I can learn four patterns and I can learn this and it will be the most expressive thing I have ever accomplished, and I don’t care how long it takes! Just going to immerse deep into it.

18:27:59 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

La Mer saved me from having a panic attack during an MRI

18:29:16 From Ruth Shepherd to Deborah Henson-Conant(Direct Message):

Yes, I relate about Debussy – the first piece I wrote when I was 15 – the music teacher threw it back at me and said I’d copied it from Debussy.  I’d never heard of Debussy, but when I heard Debussy’s music I felt that I knew what was coming next ….Still love Debussy above all….

18:30:36 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

Without having to think about the notes, allows you to add the musicality

18:30:43 From Tovelah Hirsch to Everyone:

Reacted to “La Mer saved me from…” with 🥰

18:30:50 From Tovelah Hirsch to Everyone:

Reacted to “I love this style of…” with ❣️

18:30:55 From Tara O’Brien Pride to Everyone:

Thank you!  This gave me a great start on this piece.

18:30:58 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

Reacted to “La Mer saved me from…” with 🥰

18:31:00 From Edgel Diane Deiparine to Everyone:

Can we take a picture before we end? 😄

18:31:01 From Shelley Johnson-Garstin to Everyone:

Thank you! This is just what I need!

18:32:12 From Shelley Johnson-Garstin to Everyone:

Sorry.. my video doesn’t work. I’m not that shy!

18:33:06 From Gail McEwen to Everyone:

If I come in late, my video doesn’t open up either.

18:33:06 From Elit Rimberg to Everyone:

    Thank you

18:33:29 From Wendy Savage to Everyone:

Thank you this was great!!!! So glad I’m in the academy!!!!! ❤️

18:33:33 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:

Brilliant class – fabulous start to this quarter, Thank you.

It’s about CONNECTION … not PERFECTION!

Chat Feed - (10 am ET Chat)

10:00:52 From Shelley Johnson-Garstin to Everyone:

Good Morning!  Sorry I still have no video but I am so happy to be here!

10:06:20 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

    ==> Snippet

10:06:41 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

can you make the harp louder?

10:10:07 From Katie Evans to Everyone:

    yes

10:11:27 From Tammy halun to Sally Walstrum(Direct Message):

    Are you taping?

I’m having issues with my computer so I’m on my iPad

10:11:55 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

    dfac, dfac, d

10:12:32 From Sally Walstrum to Tammy halun(Direct Message):

I’m recording & so is DHC. I’m trying to find you to make you co-host.

10:13:09 From Tammy halun to Sally Walstrum(Direct Message):

Don’t make me host I’m going to log in again

10:13:58 From Sally Walstrum to Tammy halun(Direct Message):

    Ok

10:14:17 From Susan Regan to Everyone:

    Love the hand over hand.

10:15:36 From Bonnie Berk to Everyone:

adding the c on the improv gives color

10:15:42 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

I started ending every little melody the same.

10:16:16 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

the top noodle sounds like the beginning of sheherezade! i love it

10:16:27 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

I also love the shape of 7th chords up and down the harp

10:16:31 From Cathy Hornby to Everyone:

I’m adding a low D bass as I finish the melodic impro and then using the snippet again from the usual D

10:16:33 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

The extra LH-note gives me time to put my RH in position for some melody playing

10:16:35 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

    I liked the embellishments

10:16:51 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

Cookie cutter 3x up then DCD down to A melody

10:17:01 From Stacie Link to Everyone:

I like the stacked chords as a different sound with staying in thirds

10:17:02 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

I don’t have my harp this morning but like the idea of using two hands for the chord.

10:20:04 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

Move up or down to g chord – depending on your harp size. gbdf, gbdf g

10:22:33 From Annie Jones to Everyone:

It’s fun moving through the inversions

10:23:03 From Susan Regan to Everyone:

    The pattern made it easy.

10:23:39 From Bonnie Berk to Everyone:

Doing D arpeggio up two octaves and then down an octave before switching to the G arpeggio and going back and forth

10:23:50 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

I like the feeling and color that the 3rds add at the top.

10:24:32 From Stacie Link to Everyone:

I like this as downward arpeggios too

10:26:47 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

This time I put my little figure at the beginning of the melody, too.

10:27:31 From Sally Walstrum to Everyone:

I find that making a fluid arpeggio is the ability to place all the fingers of the chord at once vs. finger by finger. I tend to aim for the root note but aiming for the middle notes (F,A) is a good way to place it as well (a trick taught to me by Heleen).

10:28:07 From Tammy halun to Sally Walstrum(Direct Message):

Sally could you add me as cohost not host

10:28:28 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

I’m experimenting with adding expression to the exercise

10:30:29 From Stacie Link to Everyone:

It also sounds good as a sort of stride, so many things to play with this

10:31:19 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

    C to G

10:31:21 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

No music to remember, just the shapes.

10:31:31 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

    oops

10:31:34 From Susan Regan to Everyone:

    Lush with not much memorization.

10:31:38 From Karthryn Bourque to Everyone:

    2 chords

10:31:43 From lisa danovich to Everyone:

    2 chords

10:32:43 From mona to Everyone:

Oh my Goodness!!! When you started those block chords in bossa rhythm, something clicked, and I am ready, I get this! I am going to use my forte which is because I play this sequence every time I practice into the rhythm I couldn’t do before!!! You are amazing!

10:38:39 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

    Woo Hoo, Mona!!!!

10:42:42 From Bonnie Berk to Everyone:

its a 2516 pattern, does this work in every key?

10:42:49 From Stacie Link to Everyone:

I am working on an arrangement of What a wonderful world and I am using a version of this

10:42:55 From mona to Everyone:

3 years of don’t get caught and I am jammin! So fun so fun I’m so happy! It really can happen to you too!!!

10:43:09 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

I switched over to my therapy harp for part of this to get comfortable improvising over these chords. it’s very soothing and relaxing.

10:43:14 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

Getting more experience with the movement, I discovered it was a challenge to put a RH-chord on the 1 of the LH and stil be playing some melody

10:43:41 From lisa danovich to Everyone:

Sometimes I feel I’ll at ease to play impromptu for others.. however I love to share the beautiful resonance with others. So this is easy to use and the resonance if the harp is beautiful.

10:44:48 From Laurie to Everyone:

I changed to a swing rhythm and created a  little pattern that I could use as a filler or expand into a piece.  Easy to remember and easy to vary.

10:45:31 From Chari McHale to Everyone:

I like using this for a warm up technique to keep my hands even, with my thumbs up, so my hands don’t run into each other.

Also, to use the melody part as an unfinished conversation aka Locrian mode.

10:45:58 From Nancy Cochran to Everyone:

To send a recording to someone I promised, to thank them, I would use this exercise. In order to avoid any recording issues for published music.

10:57:53 From Tammy halun to Everyone:

Breaking it down into sections to make it easier

10:59:24 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

I believe getting this in my fingers will help me if and when I forget my place/space out in a piece of music, and instead of coming to a grinding halt I can hang out on a chord progression till I get my bearings

10:59:40 From Cathy Hornby to Everyone:

It’s all good….until I get to the left hand turn around! Doh! Trying to finger it differently but then that sends me off onto the wrong patterns! Double doh! This walk through the sound as you run through the music is super helpful though – I’ll return to this!

11:00:57 From lisa danovich to Everyone:

Since I am on the pedal harp, will you also tell us which pedals to change instead of lever changes, please?

11:01:25 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

First I’ll have to learn to play the inversions, before smoothly going to the top-notes to change the key.

11:02:40 From Tammy halun to Everyone:

I like that we are learning inversions and will be able to do in any key

11:02:50 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

looking forward to gain facility with the inversions!!!

11:04:26 From Laurie to Everyone:

I think this will be great for helping my fingers play more evenly!

11:10:28 From Tammy halun to Everyone:

Go Catch Frogs Daily, Go Catch Frogs

    G C F D G C F

11:11:10 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

No need to think about which notes to play even hear, it’s enough to play 1 tone about the key you’re in and change the levers

11:11:38 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

I really like the modulation exericise, I avoid this a lot and would take a lot of stress away when I do weddings

11:16:53 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

pointillism is the word, I think

11:20:15 From Nancy Cochran to Everyone:

Are these Patterns available in your Store?

11:20:24 From Sarah Loveland-Gill to Everyone:

Where is the music located – was it in an email?

11:23:53 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

  1. Yes an B. that’s a lot of practise to be done.

11:23:54 From Tammy halun to Everyone:

I’m interested in learning to change my levers while playing

11:24:02 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:

    Love the new material!!

11:24:02 From Elit Rimberg to Everyone:

Replying to “Where is the music l…”

my harp is tunes on the key of C at the moment in any ideas for to try his in a different Key than F,  or just tune the harp to Eb so far ive managed with the harp tuned in C

11:24:07 From Chari McHale to Everyone:

11:25:18 From Cathy Hornby to Everyone:

First off, I found the modulation tricky then with the simplified triads, managed it easily, then, yay, managed to apply same logic to the four finger arpeggios and the modulation suddenly made sense. Thankyou

OUT of the academy, with you for almost 10 years — relaxation, improvisation, connecting with the music, not simply note reading. Yay!

11:47:14 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:

  1. Confidence intruding things out. 2. Losing the necessity to use notes. 3. Discovering that I’m better in muscular thinking.

Seconding Lynn Lapidus, music is more Musical.

11:49:30 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:

In addition to learning the musical aspects, more importantly I’m forced to “think”, make goals, and learning more about myself.

11:49:42 From Melinda Ostrander-Aviles to Everyone:

Three years in the academy….As a classical flutist, I was glued to the page and afraid of improvisation.  Now I feel so much more free and would rather play without printed music.  I have learned more about improvisation and have developed some composition skills.  I have also learned to use a DAW (digital audio workstation) and video skills.

11:50:14 From Chari McHale to Everyone:

  1. My creativity expanded with music and I began using multimedia to share stories and poems. 2. Confidence in making videos incl being on camera. 3. I learn from the community (love being part of) and am committed to Monday chats: consistency.

11:50:24 From mona to Everyone:

I can now play for anyone without shaking! Major obstacle to overcome, and I share videos, always not satisfied with my work, and now see in time, that I can truly appreciate being where I’m at knowing I can only get better!

11:51:22 From Nancy Cochran to Everyone:

Can increase the build up by playing the G once in first bar; twice in 2nd bar, 4 times in 3rd bar before the release glass in 4th bar…In RH Can also add both the 3rd above and 3rd below the outside notes I.e. A,C,D,F and move that pattern
16:50:40 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:
ornaments danced back down.
16:50:44 From heather flinn to Everyone:
This is a great intro for anything major-ish as opposed to minor-ish
16:50:50 From Lawrence JohnsonHenson-Conant and members of Hip Harp Academy Wordwide. to Everyone:
You can start on any note in the right hand using the pattern, and it sounds great.
16:51:03 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:
gliss shifts to ornamnts that dane down, they blend together
16:51:04 From Carol Booth to Everyone:
At first I was confused and searching for the the top note, but after a while my fingers found the pattern
16:51:14 From Cherie Maffey to Everyone:
I’m finding I can do the 6ths so much easier now with practice.
16:52:01 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:
It appeared also a great shape to play stride with. Leaving my RH to noodle
16:52:40 From Lynne Lapidus to Everyone:
At the top I almost came to a resolution chord and kept the tension by going back down and up right there a few times
16:52:41 From mona to Everyone:
One of the stock intros I need! I love it! Jealous of the girl that adds the extras! Tomorrow I can do that!
16:52:46 From Karen Adams to Everyone:
Build anticipation if end gliss on can use as intro to any song in c
16:53:30 From Célia Jurdant to Everyone:
Love the shape idea. Simple. And a great way to free oneself of looking at the notes
16:53:43 From Bonnie Berk to Everyone:
you can play the pattern downward
16:54:25 From Tammy Halun to Everyone:
Facebook Live comment from Erika
Gradually increasing the volume each time adds dramatic effect.
16:54:45 From Mary Misiaszek to Everyone:
If in a different ket, then just start with V?
16:55:11 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:
3 legged dog patterns works well in RH too
17:01:24 From Mary Misiaszek to Everyone:
Is there any pattern or rules to what you are doing in your right hand after you play the 5ths
17:01:40 From Tammy Halun to Everyone:
Playing open 5ths
A E
G D
F C
17:02:52 From Tammy Halun to Everyone:
6, 5, 4
A, G, F (a space to noodle around in)
17:09:02 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:
I really like a walking baseline and just improvising with my treble hand. The treble can led the base and vice versal
17:09:27 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:
yes, sycopatuin is lovely
17:09:43 From Lawrence JohnsonHenson-Conant and members of Hip Harp Academy Wordwide. to Everyone:
The new pattern is a great platform for improv – different from a lot that we have done before.
17:09:45 From Cherie Maffey to Everyone:
Can play the A E etc as broken or block chords, can arpeggiate with noodling or do 3rds , 6ths in right hand.
17:09:48 From Joke Verdoold to Everyone:
I got mixed up in 2 different styles, 1 mediaval and one modern jazzy like an d I didn’t’t know how incorporate them.
17:09:49 From heather flinn to Everyone:
A really simple left hand but it is enough for a beautiful tune on top
17:09:49 From Bonnie Berk to Everyone:
I liked playing the pattern of fifths ending in GD and then it makes it rhythmically feel right to move into the first pattern
17:10:14 From mona to Everyone:
Maybe we begin with the fanfare then do the third one and then the ae part and then the fanfare .
17:10:31 From Wendy Savage to Everyone:
The building of these musical ideas come together so simply. Allowing the space to develop more easily.
17:10:45 From Laurie to Everyone:
The more we repeated the 2 patterns, the easier it was to find my way fitting them together
17:10:52 From Mary Misiaszek to Everyone:
I like playing the 6ths in different rhythms and speeds
17:11:06 From Mary Misiaszek to Everyone:
Woops – 5ths!
17:11:32 From Julia Cunningham to Everyone:
It’s amazing how such a simple pattern can be turned into so many different styles.
17:13:07 From Célia Jurdant to Everyone:
Replying to “3 legged dog pattern…”
What is the 3 legged dog ?
17:16:30 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:
Replying to “3 legged dog pattern…”

A pattern of a 2nd, then a 3rd: e.g. G, A, C,

17:32:15 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:
I very much like shifting between major, minor and a bit of dissonance. CReates a beautiful arc and all imorov 🙂
17:32:50 From Julia Cunningham to Everyone:
When you think in terms of patterns, you don’t have to worry about what notes your playing.
17:32:58 From Cherie Maffey to Everyone:
The pattern is similar to Baroque Flamenco, the intro, the variation and rhythm.
17:33:17 From Lara-may Thorne to Everyone:
It’s nice to have the freedom to play without much thought
17:33:19 From Ruth Shepherd to Everyone:
Learning by pattern is now the easiest, fastest, most reliable way for me to learn and remember . This is now a whole piece that we can play in any style we choose.
17:33:26 From mona to Everyone:
We can play songs without music, we can string simple patterns to make something fun. Then we can fine tune it and expand it, or not!
17:33:36 From Cherrie Mooney to Everyone:
Lots of experimenting. I seem to improv only using the given chord notes, even though I know I can use any notes. I’ll need to loosen up.
17:34:49 From Wendy Savage to Everyone:
Very fun, putting them together helps with transition from one idea to the other. Even if I couldn’t play the whole pattern I could play some of it. But after a while I could do it. It’s all about transitioning for me.
17:35:15 From Ingele to Everyone:
Great combinación, very powerful! And very sensitive is the minor part, love it!
17:35:31 From Judi MacKenzie to Everyone:

Finding that the more adventurous I get the more new patterns Are found. Challenge

Challenge is to truly integrate new things before they float away

17:47:01 From Valerie Wedel to Everyone:

17:54:04 From Julia Cunningham to Everyone:
Beautiful share, Carol!
17:54:55 From heather flinn to Everyone:
Gotta go go gooooooooo Everyone should join! You will learn so much – watch as many of the videos as you can absorb and don’t expect to be able to take it all in on the first time through. Definitely learn how to post videos as there is so much to learn even if you only pluck two strings. If you are a pro don’t be a perfectionist as this is a safe space to LEARN something new!
17:56:09 From mona to Everyone:
1. Three hours of playing, instruction, group learning by sharing our work every Monday.
2. Catch up coaching is getting help with anything. Every week.
3. Office hour 1x a week with DHC for
class of playing together, then she helps with every issue we have!
4. Ambient improv and random harp sharing where again, we play together with a snippet and then everyone shares their work!
5. Harp time live once a month.
6. Yes we have accountability buddies!
7. Then you have all these special challenges and you learn more than you could have dreamed. I’m going from forever fledgling to a magnificent swan!
Nowhere can you get this much bang for any amount of bucks!
17:57:18 From Célia Jurdant to Everyone:
