What we did:

We looked at the Bossa Nova Warmup from Summer Harp Jam

“The Power of Pattern” Quarter

It’s a great time to join Hip Harp Academy.  Check it out at https://www.hipharp.com/academy/

Snippet

Bossa Nova from Summer Harp Jam

Tune harps to key of C
Just using 2 chords
C E G B
and
F A C E
We started out by playing block Chords [LH]C – [RH] GBD. Then we split up when we were playing the notes (on different beats):

1 – [LH] C [RH] E  G B
+
2 – [RH] E G B
+ -[LH] C
3 [LH] E
+ [LH] G B
4
+ [LH] C [RH] E G B

We also did this exercise by counting out loud and clapping the rhythm

See video for demonstration on putting these patterns into rhythms

17:11:56 From kimberly woods To Everyone:
Looking at the dots helped me get the rhythm much easier than reading it from notes
17:13:18 From Cherrie Mooney To Everyone:
I had to count at first. Once I got the feel of the pattern, I could feel the rhythm and play it faster.
17:13:36 From Anne Horton To Everyone:
To my surprise I discovered that I could play it easily as long as I was watching the dots … then I had to really concentrate to play it with my eyes shut … but it isn’t the usual sort of “concentrating”, it’s more of a “letting go and just doing it” kind of concentrating.
17:17:23 From Nancy Cochran To Everyone:
Hello, I’m working and listening.
17:17:26 From Puck T To Everyone:
It helped me that I clapped the Rhythm before I played the harp and looking to the dots and listening to the harp.
17:17:30 From Anne Horton To Everyone:
Good one Heather!

17:17:44 From linda paszalek To Everyone:
Starting with a three note chord was easier for me, then I started going up with the next third. I do think it might be a bit easier if I could just hear it up to speed so I would know what I’m heading for
17:17:48 From Joke Verdoold To Everyone:
Counting and playing, first only the first measure and when that worked putting in the second. It takes a lot of concentration, but it sounds great.

17:33:37 From Theresa Niederberger To Everyone:
