ARE THERE ANY HANDOUTS THAT GO ALONG WITH EACH class.
16:19:29 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
Yes there are always handouts
16:19:30 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
2. Can we skip what when we know schedules won’t work , like : do the winter , skip spring … and such ?
16:20:03 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
Yes because there are replays so you can catch up in one week!
16:21:05 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
Thank you !
16:22:50 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
I may have just learned how to get to the chat replays! Thanks
16:24:36 From Sjarda Morgaine To Everyone:
By the way. I succeeded in registering for the Academy just now. I am so happy now.
16:30:42 From Julie Arreguin-Larsen To Everyone:

16:38:06 From megan hall To Everyone:
Do you (personally) always begin playing on the note that is changing when you modulate?
16:44:35 From Nancy Anne Baugher To Everyone:
you are brilliant!
16:44:54 From Bonnie Berk To Everyone:
I noticed that when we noodle around we should be noodling on the note we change before establishing the new key.
16:45:25 From Bonnie Berk To Everyone:
Oh ok.. you just clarified
16:45:51 From Joke Verdoold To Everyone:
Yay! I finally understood how to do the tonality changes.
16:46:30 From Cherie Maffey To Everyone:
This is great, really makes it so clear. I can now understand it.
16:46:57 From Nikola Löser To Everyone:
1 5
16:47:17 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
what notes are changing and what the new “1” is in the key you are now in
16:47:18 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
This class is fun and scary. Trying to wrap head around this order by choosing the fifth of each key to modulate to, but didn’t work when it was time to raise the e’s as they are already raised. Excited to visit the class.
16:47:27 From Nancy Anne Baugher To Everyone:
awareness through understanding helps
16:48:33 From Cathy Hornby To Everyone:
Main things? Keep playing! Anything! – while changing those levers! And just remember establish, modulate levers while noodling, land and reestablush new key!
16:48:41 From Vera Stern To Everyone:
We do think about the change of key , the signature of the new key, and some harmonic structure to establish the key.
16:48:44 From Nadya Kind To Everyone:
Helpful to do this during a practice session (or gog!) before going to a new song in the next key on the progression
16:50:14 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
I love the key change “musical chairs” game idea! :):):)
16:50:55 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
Are you establishing your key focusing on the 2-5-1- pattern?
16:51:15 From Nancy Anne Baugher To Everyone:
totally exciting
16:51:19 From Elizabeth Blalock To Everyone:
Exciting!
16:51:39 From Joke Verdoold To Everyone:
Loved it, but it’s excitingly scary.
16:51:58 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
IT WAS BOTH : exciting and when theory is not your f o r t e , it’spulling me down …
16:53:24 From Cherie Maffey To Everyone:
I can see from that I can do anything for noodling to change into next key. I don’t have to do this arpeggio.
16:53:42 From Anne Jackson To Everyone:
Yes, a combination of exciting and scary! I listen to how fast DHC plays with such rhythm and wonder how I could ever do that BUT at this point I’m more interested in slower, meditative music that is more interesting than what I can currently play and to play without such dependence on written music.
16:54:47 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
I will take YOUR WORD FOR … thank you for the encouragement
16:55:06 From Linda Paszalek To Everyone:
I always used the 5 -1 to change keys on piano, adding the 2 to it grounds it even more!
16:56:09 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
Finally improvization makes SENSE
16:59:35 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
Coming in on 2 of new chord?
16:59:41 From Vera Stern To Everyone:
The jarring sound of the key change, is sometimes used as unexpected sound for the ear to expect something new.
17:01:53 From kelly tamayo To Everyone:
never resolving
17:02:03 From Cherie Maffey To Everyone:
Great question, I’ve noticed that too, the jarring sound.
17:02:09 From Cathy Hornby To Everyone:
Anne asked the exact question I wanted answering – and you did – perfectly
17:02:15 From Marianne Baatz To Everyone:
Reacted to “never resolving” with 🎉
17:02:33 From Anne Horton To Everyone:
I got that to “disguise” a modulation “Don’t Resolve” just keep on playing 2-5 in each key
17:02:51 From Cathy Hornby To Everyone:
Reacted to “I got that to “disgu…” with 👍
17:07:14 From Nancy Anne Baugher To Everyone:
That is sooo lovely!
17:07:46 From Bonnie Berk To Everyone:
I think what would be helpful for me is to put together a cheat sheet with the 2516 in every key and modulate into each key while playing the same pattern.
17:09:17 From Christine Crocker To Everyone:
It’s possible to ‘hide’ the lever change by hiding the change while noodling in the new key without playing the changed note until it’s been changed.
17:09:44 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
I could fake a whole performance!
17:09:45 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
these warmups are genius!!! Of course🥰

17:10:01 From Tammy Halun To Everyone:
It’s a great way to expand my playing modulating up and down between keys.
17:10:06 From Anne Jackson To Everyone:
Okay, so I actually understand all of that when I watch you do it, because of my long ago rusty piano knowledge. Now, to be able to do that myself!
17:10:07 From Anne Horton To Everyone:
validated
17:10:11 From Fern Nelson To Everyone:
I think that if I practice it the way that you have written it I will learn the staircase and improve my noodling! I’m excited
17:10:22 From Joke Verdoold To Everyone:
Thank you, interesting, but I can’t think any longer. Goodnight to you all
17:10:46 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
I was lost before playing along w you ….
17:10:47 From Rachel O’Rourke To Everyone:
I’m delighted to see the that changing levers can be done as part of the noodling and the listener need never know the panic of the player to change levers whilst playing !!
17:11:14 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
is there a print out version of that amazing wheel or is it just in canva for now?
17:11:52 From Nikola Löser To Everyone:
where can i find this Handout in the academy
17:12:29 From Snezana Ruzic To Everyone:
👆M e too , please
17:13:21 From Linda Paszalek To Everyone:
It seems to me that Adding the 7ths and 9ths makes the keys less ‘stable’ and allows you to change the note less jarringly. Thanks so much for the lesson!
17:13:51 From Christine Crocker To Everyone:

17:16:09 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:

17:17:22 From Marianne Baatz To Everyone:
It is so exciting to see, that there is a basic start, but also a look out to climbing the peak of the mountain. The exercises look like working in a fun way to create the “muscle” which is needed to actually be able to climb the peak as well as striding the valley, in a relaxed and playful way.
17:17:16 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
How do we buy the sheet music?
17:17:42 From jessica pittaway To Everyone:
Will there be future access to the modulation staircase as a separate paid course outside of the full academy membership for your long term ala carte students….. like me🙂 ?

The community is supportive, there’s no judgement, fantastic.
17:24:44 From Nikola Löser To Everyone:
If I am already in the academy do I then pay tfor he print Version of the Modulation staircase?
17:25:19 From Nadya Kind To Everyone:
Need to go as well – thank you!@
17:25:52 From Cherie Maffey To Everyone:
Well, I can’t read music and I thought this was going to be a problem but it hasn’t.
17:26:05 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
Could I stay in the academy my whole life?
17:26:54 From Anne Jackson To Everyone:
How long has the Academy been going on? It is interesting to hear Anne talk about the development of the community.
17:27:34 From Vera Stern To Everyone:
During pandemic it was a life saving line! And a great party!!
17:28:05 From Mona Seering To Everyone:
I am in my third year beginning with the power progression. I am now on level four and maybe more in this modulating thing and I have developed my very own style for having to do sharing videos. I have learned so much so many light bulb days! I went from intensely upset with myself to accepting with joy where I am at today knowing I will grow more with every class! This is a world of new friends who are in our boat!
17:33:31 From Anne Horton To Everyone:
Reacted to “During pandemic it w…” with ❤️
17:34:00 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
Clarity! It’s the journey!!!
17:34:19 From Nikola Löser To Everyone:
ok, I sign up for the sheet music
17:34:19 From Sarah Loveland-Gill To Everyone:
I’m just getting started with the modulation staircase, but I have definitely experienced greater confidence changing levers…previously I didn’t EVER want to change a lever in a song, and everything came to a grinding halt between songs while I changed levers. Nowadays I can comfortable noodle between songs re-setting the key and I’m getting a little more confident changing in a tune.

17:37:31 From Christine Crocker To Everyone:
Thank you for this wonderfully informative session.
17:38:39 From Dawn Gillette To Everyone:
