“What are Your Strings of Passion?”
Webinar REPLAY
Recorded Tues., Jan. 9, 2018 4:30 PM EDT
“What are Your Strings of Passion?”
is a Warm-up Webinar for the 10-Week “Strings of Passion” Program
How did you find your way to this page?
- If you’re already in the “Strings of Passion” program, or a full member of Hip Harp Academy, this is my current favorite intro to the Strings of Passion (so you may have navigated here from the warm-up week for this class). You’ll be able to navigate back to the program from your dashboard.
- If you’re NOT in the program yet, take a look at the “Strings of Passion” info page here. This program is open to everyone, not just harpists or musicians.
- If you’re a harp player, and not yet registered for this course, take a look at the whole Academy Info Page. This course is ONE of the courses you have access to in the full yearlong Academy curriculum.
NOTE: Any specials mentioned in the below video or on this page may not be available depending on when you watch the replay.

Note: Times should correspond with the countertimer in the upper righthand corner of the video, but there may be some cropping in the video that sets them off somewhat.
00:00 Welcome, this is an exploration of the 7 Strings of Passion that help you go from creative impulse to creative expression. It is about resonance in the soul that gets to the music. This can happen at any technical level.
03:00 How to get the best out of this webinar. How to play along. (Key of C)
07:30 How playing music is a search for freedom. DHC explains her history with music.
09:00 How do we bring our passion to music? What does our passion tell us?
10:00 Starting with the strings: the first one is IMPULSE: remember the impulse to touch an instrument and see how it sounded?
14:00 The story of STRUCTURE, the second string. This is the internal structure that gives shape to creativity.
16:50 The third string: CHARACTER. Note the expression marks you see all over sheet music.
22:00 The fourth string: ROLES. Look at the three parts of your harp strings; also think of the roles of leadership and followship. Try this.
27:00 A story about a conductor and what leadership means.
29:00 A discovery about roles when playing with others.
30:00 The roles on a harp. Playalong to show these three parts.
34:00 How roles can give you freedom. How we can “take on a role”. (physically or mentally)
38:00 How we use the music modes. How we can cut off or open up the resonance within us through the music.
40:00 The fifth string of PRACTICE. Surrendering yourself to the music that you are playing. (instead of struggling to do the things you think you cannot do). To quote Jerzy Growtoski: ”Don’t do more: hide less”.
45:00 Demo of the sixth string: DECONSTRUCT the music until you can understand, play and feel it.
50:00 The LIFT-OFF seventh string. Putting the music back together.
51:30 Why DHC begins the year with this course, helping us experience ourselves as artists.
53:00 www.stringsofpassion.com and how to register as Early Bird.

“Strings of Passion” is my 10-week course in creative discovery and expression at the heart of your inner resonance – your inner strings of passion. It’s available year-round for self-paced study through my online school, Hip Harp Academy.
Once a year I personally guide all the students in the Academy through the course. If you’re not already registered for Strings of Passion (or a “FULL-LEVEL” member of Hip Harp Academy).
Its been a great class DHC. Thank you for sharing your heart and soul in every class. I love how we don’t wear all our clothes everyday or eat everything in the refrigerator but I tend to want to do that at the harp when I play without notes. Even how leaders are following something too. Thank you DHC.
Gosh Deborah, I don’t know what to say. What an amazing journey this one hour has been. I can’t wait to see where/what/who I am when we start and where/what/who I am on a daily basis and at the end of Strings of Passion. I can see how this is so important to have at the beginning.
