DEBORAH HENSON CONANT

ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT

BIO

Deborah Henson-Conant (“DHC”) is a GRAMMY®-Nominated recording artist and the world’s premier electric harpist. She’s known for her high energy shows, evocative singing and multi-layer looping, her fusion of music and theater – and for transforming the classical harp into a “Body Harp” by shrinking it down, strapping it on and plugging it in. Her music combines Blues, Latin, Folk, Classical and Musical Theater. She creates one-woman shows, solo concerts – and also arranges and performs her original works with symphony orchestra.

She’s opened for Ray Charles at Tanglewood, toured as the Boston Pops’ featured soloist and jammed onstage with guitar legends from Steve Vai to Mason Williams. She’s been called the “Jimi Hendrix of the harp” (Steve Vai), “a cross between Leonard Bernstein and Xena, Warrior Princess” (Boston Globe).

Her audience spans generations —  her shows are often filled with parents who bring their children to see what it means to passionately follow your own creative path – and teens who bring their grandparents to share an evening of music and stories they can love together.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

She’s toured with the Boston Pops, opened for Ray Charles at Tanglewood, jammed onstage with Bobby McFerrin and offstage with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. She’s been featured on television shows from Charlie Rose to Joan Rivers and “The View” and in two full-length PBS music specials.

Legendary “Tonight Show” trumpeter Doc Severinsen calls her the “Wild Woman of the Harp,” iconic rock guitarist Steve Vai says she’s the “Jimi Hendrix of the Harp.” See her once and you’ll never look at a harp the same way again.

Her voice is compared to Carly Simon and Joan Baez; her playing to Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix; and her humor to musical comedian Victor Borge and even Eddie Izzard.

Her signature instrument is an 11lb carbon-fiber electric harp, designed specifically for her by the CAMAC Harp Company in France, it’s now one of the fastest-selling new harp models in the world and was named after her. In her TEDx talk she tells the story of how conceived of the instrument and what it took to bring it to reality.
