Karen Hale and I talked about creativity as a kind of compass: how music can guide us through confusion, open emotional doors, and even help us “fake it” until we find our way. Karen’s warmth and curiosity made it feel less like an interview and more like a fireside chat about the artistic journey, along with detours, discoveries, and so much more.

In this Vents Magazine feature, DHC is celebrated for her groundbreaking collaboration with Ukrainian bandura artist Iryna Lytvynenko, where the world premiere of DHC’s ‘Merceditas’ concerto was adapted for the bandura, Ukraine’s national instrument.
This collaboration became possible because of the DHC Legacy Bridge Project, which demonstrates the power of art to transcend borders and sustain hope during challenging times.
