Meet your creative coach Deborah Henson-Conant
I’m Deborah Henson-Conant, and I’ve been composing, arranging and creating shows since I was a kid. I now play shows with symphonies and on solo stages with the electric harp that was created for me by CAMAC Harps, the “DHC” Harp.
But I started on the ukulele, playing and singing my own little-kid arrangements, telling stories, improvising and playing and singing with other people. And guess what? I use many of the same skills and principles to arrange the music I record and perform today – including the Grammy-Nominated album “Invention & Alchemy” and the song that won first prize in the International Songwriting Competiton (ISC).

- Choose a looper, if you don’t have one
- Make sure you have all the components & accessories so your looper actually works
- Know how to put all the components together (the signal flow)
- Get an outline of how YOUR looper works
- Troubleshoot the most likely problems
IS THE “Loop Your Harp” Workshop FOR YOU?
This workshop IS for you if you want to
- Break free of the anxiety and paralysis that keeps a looper sitting untouched in its box — or keeps you from buying one at all, because you don’t trust yourself to figure it out.
- Discover how a Looper Pedal can liberate you from having to play every note – and instead become an accompanist at your beck and call.
- Get the core looper functions in your body (start, pause, overdub, stop & clear)
- Learn how to practice the “downbeat rule” so your loops line up
- Build a metronome into your loops so they’re easy to play back to
- Learn the various types of loops: single, multi, atmospheric, bass loop, high loop, high-low combo, etc.
- Learn how to break out of a loop so you can combine loops with non-looped playing
- Walk away with up to five loops you’ll be able to play (written out in music manuscript)
This workshop IS NOT for you if you want
- Super-fancy looping techniques (This workshop is about getting the basics under your fingers and feet)
- Help in using any specific functions outside of looping like reverse loops, looping more than one instrument, importing loops (This workshop is about getting the basics)
- Tech help with your specific looper model
- Although you can stay after the workshop to talk with other harpists about that
- If there’s time, we’ll create breakout rooms for people who have the same model
- The Getting Started guide may help you with that but we won’t be spending time on it in the workshop
