Baroque Flamenco (RHYTHM)
Start with Harps Tuned in C (but we’ll play in Aminor)

[HTL-69-210408 – HARP TIME LIVE #69– Thu. Apr. 8, 2021

In which we went on another field trip to Somerset Square virtual festival site and learned to play the Mexican Triple-Waltz RHYTHM of Baroque Flamenco.

We played in Aminor. We followed a basic form to build the rhythm:

  1. Play the chord as simple TRIADS:  Am-G-F-E (with spelling E-A-B … or raise your G to G# and play E-G#-B)
  2. Arpeggiate them on beats 1-2 & 3 of each measure
  3. Add 8th notes to the first measure, playing A-C-E-A-C-E (and emphasizing the “A” notes)
  4. Play the 2nd measure with only quarters: G – B – D
  5. Add 8th notes to the 3rd measure: F-A-C-F-A-C
  6. Play the 4th measure as a ‘crunch’: just play all the notes together (E-A-B)
  7. Rinse & Repeat steps 3-6 above
  8. Then …. we got a little more tricky! But you’ll have to watch the replay for that OR …
  9. Sign up for the BAROQUE FLAMENCO 5-DAY CHALLENGE for what we did next

Here’s how to take what you learn in this session much further:

Join  “Hip Harp Academy”  …
or check out “Blueprints for Creativity”
where you’ll learn other Blueprints like the Baroque Flamenco Blueprint

or “Baroque Flamenco Beyond the Page
where you can learn to add the rhythms, strumming techniques, etc. to take this piece to the next level.

Please add your own insights, revelations, and takeaways below in the comments, even if someone else already said the same thing!  Just say it in your own way or say it again the way they did.

  • To start the replay, just look for the little arrow in the lower left-hand corner of the videos.
  • To watch in full-screen look in the lower RH corner of the video for the ‘four expanding arrows’ icon.
  • Note that you can speed up or slow down the video with the speed controls.

17:00:45 From Tara-O%27Brien%20Pride to Everyone : Technical note: my laptop on Zoom knows not to put the display to sleep…but not here through Somerset!  I had to change my laptop power settings.

17:18:03 From Jan-Kingston to Everyone : Lynne, is your computer set to go to sleep?  I’m wondering if you turn that off, if you wouldn’t need to move your mouse?

17:18:06 From Gail-McEwen to Everyone : We are on ZOOMERSET 5. My computer has put the monitor to sleep here and there. It comes right back up with no problems. We are hard wired with Comcast on a desktop.

17:18:20 From Tara-O%27Brien%20Pride to Everyone : Your screen saver is probably kicking in to blank your screen.  You can change your computers settings to allow more time before blanking.

17:18:24 From Kathy-DeAngelo to Everyone : That’s a known issue with Safari.

17:18:35 From Jan-Kingston to Everyone : I couldn’t get in on Safari, Kathy.

17:24:39 From Kathy-DeAngelo to Everyone : Tara: thanks for thinking of the screen saver setting!
