“When does the class start?”

Blues Harp-Style is self-paced, which means it’s pre-recorded and available 24/7 to fit with your schedule. You start whenever you want, learn at your own pace, and come back to it whenever you need to.

No live class schedule. No pressure. (and thanks to Kellen and others for this question!)

“What order should I take the three classes in?”

Thanks to Doris for this question about the bundle, which includes “Blues Harp-Style” PLUS “Blues by the Dozen” and “New Blues Beyond the Page” to expand your repertoire.

Here’s the video I made for Doris showing her my recommendation.

I’d recommend beginning with Blues Harp-Style Modules 1, 2, and 3. That’s where I put the fundamentals, so you’ll have a solid foundation before moving on.

After that, you can keep going with “Blues Harp-Style” or switch to “Blues by the Dozen.” If you do switch, the “Dorian Blues” is my first recommendation, and “New Blues Lite” after that.

When you’re ready to try a different tuning, move into “New Blues Beyond the Page” and just know that you’ll need to regroup and give yourself some time to get grounded in the new tuning.

You don’t have to rush through any of this. The whole point is to learn, play, and let the Blues keep expanding for you.

“Will this help me play Blues with other people? ”

Lois wrote: “Most of my friends play guitar and I like to jam along with them. Would this course still help me jam along with them?”

YES! That’s one of the things Blues Harp-Style is designed to help you do.

It gives you a kind of formula or pattern that you can use in any key, so you’re not starting from scratch every time. But even if you’re not playing Blues or Jazz, it also teaches you the roles that musicians need to learn to play with others:

• Bass: Learning to play the role the bass player might play
• Comping: The accompaniment role
• Melody: This is often called ‘soloing’ in jazz – but it’s similar to playing a melody
  The class also teaches you where and when to switch roles, which is an important part of playing with others.

“Can I do this on a lever harp?”

Absolutely! Blues Harp-Style is designed for both lever and pedal harp. In fact, it’s easier in many ways on the lever harp!

“Can I do this class on a piano?”

Believe it or not, you can. While every single part of it doesn’t translate instantly to piano, you can definitely learn the basics of blues from the class and play them on the piano.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for someone who wants to play piano blues (because there are easier ways for a piano to play blues) — but if you’re somewhere where you don’t have access to your harp, you can use piano in a pinch — especially for the first 3 modules of “Blues Harp-Style.”

“What’s the difference between Blues Harp-Style and the Meditative Blues workshop?”

The Meditative Blues is one of the blues styles you learn in “Blues Harp-Style” — but whereas the Meditative Blues can be played completely rubato and has complex, extended chords, Blues Harp-Style teaches you the fundamental, more ‘upbeat’ 12-Bar Blues and how to develop techniques like slap-bass, stride, swing rhythm, and the basic structure of a 12-bar blues arrangement.

The Meditative Blues is included in “Blues Harp-Style” but you can also take it a-la carte in this Meditative Blues Workshop.
