======== Press Release: Please run through July 27, 2019 ========

Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 7:30 PM, Grammy-nominated vocalist and electric harpist Deborah Henson-Conant performs a single solo show at Celebration Barn Theater—the place where she was inspired to reinvent the harp three decades ago.

Deborah Henson-Conant (“DHC”) is revolutionizing the harp for a whole new generation of listeners and players by singing and telling stories, and shrinking the harp down, strapping it on, plugging it in, and using guitar-effects and looper pedals to create her sound. Iconic rock guitarist Steve Vai called her “The Jimi Hendrix of the harp.” The Boston Globe’s Ed Siegel called her, “A combination of Leonard Bernstein, Steven Tyler and Xena, the Warrior Princess.”

The idea to transform her instrument was first sparked when DHC went to Celebration Barn in the late 1980s to try to change her relationship with the harp, at that time playing a 6-foot-tall, 80-pound concert harp she felt trapped behind. “The harp is the instrument of the storyteller,” Celebration Barn founder Tony Montanaro told her. “So tell your story with it — in your own unique way.”

After working with Montanaro at Celebration Barn, DHC took her ideas of a new, more physically integrated harp to the world’s cutting edge harp manufacturer, Camac Harps in France, where they used racing bike technology to develop a streamlined carbon fibre harp for her, weighing 11 pounds and fully portable. Now the instrument, Camac’s DHC Electric Harp (named after her) is played by musicians all around the world. This is the harp the audience will see DHC play on July 27th—in the very theater where the transformation of this instrument first happened.
