My show “The Golden Cage” runs in NYC starting April 20 – and now we have a cast!
Every play is a secret.
A life that lives only in the playwright’s mind, until, like some alien being, it takes hold in the bodies and voices of humans who bring it to life
That take-over is called casting.
And it just happened to my new musical “The Golden Cage” – running April 20-24 in NYC.
I’d never gone through an official casting process before, because I normally write and perform one-woman shows.
I’d heard of a casting director, but had no idea what they do.
Turns out they pry the characters out of your head, and turn them into words for an audition notice so the actors can find the seed of your characters inside themselves – at least, that’s what our casting director, Cindi Rush, did. And it worked!
About 600 actors submitted for this two-person musical – and last Monday we whittled it down to a dozen, who Cindi shepherded into a rehearsal hall in NYC where they sang and acted and brought me to tears as I watched remarkable, talented people turn my imagination into living, breathing human bodies.
And for the first time, I knew they would come alive for you, too.
Because now they are cast. Cast in human form.
And when the lights rise on April 20th at Theatre Four in Manhattan, Boris and Alphea will step out of my imagination and – in their own voices – tell you the secret I’ve been keeping for years. Tix & Info: GoldenCageMusical.com
