When Music Speaks Louder Than Words – Midyne [Member Spotlight]

That’s exactly what happened to Midyne, a member of Hip Harp Academy..

Creating Music in Challenging Times

On the morning of the election, Midyne sat with her harp. All around her, the country felt divided. Instead of adding to the noise, she created something beautiful.

She wrote an original song called “Freedom.”

“This is an original song that I wrote the morning of the election while contemplating the deep divide in our country.”

Midyne didn’t wait until her playing was “perfect.” She didn’t wait until she had everything memorized. She simply played what was in her heart.

The Power of Letting Go

Like many of our students, Midyne struggled with perfectionism:

“I feel like I still need more practice time with this song, so once again I had to let go of perfectionist tendencies.”

But she discovered something important:

“It doesn’t need to be complicated to be beautiful. Focus on what you can do.”

Breaking Free from Old Patterns

Instead of sticking with what felt safe, Midyne tried something new:

“I was more open to exploring arrangement ideas and not simply sticking with patterns.”

This willingness to experiment opened new doors for her, both in music and in life.

Beyond the Harp: Life-Changing Growth

The most exciting part? Learning to play the harp changed more than just Midyne’s musical abilities:

“It’s hard to put the impact into words. The academy has changed my life on many levels. In general I’m focusing more on connection and observing instead of judging myself and others.”

She even found confidence in playing with others:

“I recently had a chance to jam with a keyboard & guitar player and was much more at ease with that process than in the past.”

The Big “Aha” Moment

For Midyne, everything clicked when she realized:

“It’s not about thinking, it’s about expression.”
