Electric Harp Pioneer Deborah Henson-Conant Comes Home to TCAN Solo Show on January 31, 2026

(Boston, MA – January 5, 2026) – Grammy-nominated harpist, composer, and international performer Deborah “DHC” Henson-Conant announces her return to The Center for Arts in Natick, MA (TCAN) with a solo live performance on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. The evening promises an intimate, dynamic concert featuring electric harp, voice, storytelling, and DHC’s signature humor—hallmarks of a career that has reshaped perceptions of the harp worldwide. Widely recognized as the artist who changed the way the world sees the harp, Henson-Conant will perform on the DHC Electric Harp, her groundbreaking signature instrument, developed in collaboration with the renowned French harp maker CAMAC, and now played by harpists around the globe. Blending influences from jazz, blues, Latin, flamenco, and musical theater, her genre-spanning compositions, paired with her engaging and often humorous storytelling, connect audiences directly to her music and creative journey. The Austin American-Statesman raved that her live performances deliver “dazzling harp playing, gorgeous jazz/pop singing, comic timing and impressive songwriting.”

After recent performances throughout Europe—including Scotland, the UK, France, Belgium, and Germany—Henson-Conant returns to TCAN, a venue closely tied to her history. She was among the first artists to appear on TCAN’s main stage following its opening, establishing a long-standing relationship with the venue and its audiences.

Since her initial appearance at TCAN, Henson-Conant’s music has continued to resonate far beyond her own performances. Her compositions are now performed internationally by artists including Orpheum Grand Prize winner Kaitlin Janelle Hui at the Vancouver Academy of Music and Ukrainian bandura virtuoso Iryna Lytvynenko, who has adapted two of Henson-Conant’s concertos for the bandura—Ukraine’s national instrument and a powerful symbol of Ukraine’s national identity. Reaching audiences across the globe—including in Israel, Iran, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Canada, and the Americas—her works have been recorded by the Salzburg Philharmonic and are recognized as required repertoire by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Grammy-nominated electric harpist, singer, composer, innovator and educator Deborah Henson-Conant (known to many as DHC) has mesmerized audiences throughout the US and Europe for the past three decades. Shattering every harp stereotype with her electrifying performances, she’s known for her on-stage image, her humor, passion and innovation, wearing the electric body-harp she designed. Whether commanding concert halls or intimate salons across the U.S. and Europe, she transforms the harp into an instrument of limitless expression—blending blues, flamenco, Latin, and classical influences with her powerful vocals and storytelling flair.

Using a looper pedal to layer melodies and guitar effects on her harp, she plays solo or in collaboration with symphonies and chamber ensembles – always mixing music, story & movement. She’s opened for Ray Charles, toured with icons of the music world like the Boston Pops and guitar legend Steve Vai, and jammed onstage with renowned powerhouses like Bobby McFerrin and Mason Williams.

As a composer, she writes music that tells stories – from intimate solo harp pieces to orchestral concertos, from one-woman musicals to dramatic song cycles. She strides on stage like a rock-star, strapped into a futuristic electric harp, with 32 multi-color strings.

She’s the woman who changed the way the world sees the harp.  

She’s Grammy-nominated electric harp legend and innovator, Deborah Henson-Conant – known as “DHC”  — with the instrument she invented: the “DHC Electric Harp.”  She’s coming to TCAN, The Center for Arts in Natick, one of New England’s greatest intimate listening rooms – for a single SOLO show Sat. Jan. 31, 2026 at 8pm.

On stage Henson-Conant combines movement, humor and stories with music inspired by Blues, Latin, Flamenco, Jazz and Musical Theater. Her voice has been compared to Carly Simon and Joan Baez; her playing to Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix; and her humor to musical comedian Victor Borge and Eddie Izzard — all spoken and sung ‘from the harp’ – in stories and music about romance, failure, food and how to navigate life.

If you’re thinking ‘’Celtic Woman” or “New Age Background music,” you’ve got it wrong.  DHC was the primary female instrumentalist on the GRP jazz label in the 90’s. Her original Latin/Blues music is enhanced by her use of a looper pedal to create spontaneous soundscapes, layer upon layer, building them in front of the audience in real time – and then using them as a bed for virtuosic improvisation.

She’s toured – internationally with her one-woman shows, in collaboration with symphony orchestras like the Boston Pops and Baltimore Symphony, and with legendary musicians like guitarists Steve Vai and Mason Williams. She opened for Ray Charles at Tanglewood, jammed onstage with Bobby McFerrin and offstage with Steven Tyler. She been featured in major media from NPR’s Weekend Edition with Scott Simon to NBC Today Show — and her original music special, “Invention & Alchemy” appeared on PBS stations throughout the US. Since her last performance at TCAN in 2024 she’s created the DHC Legacy Project – to publish all of her compositions for distribution, continued inspiring hundreds of harpists in her international online improvisation school (Hip Harp Academy).
