What is it?

“Invention & Alchemy” is a full-length concert video featuring electric harpist & vocalist Deborah Henson-Conant, conductor David Lockington and the Grand Rapids Symphony.

It’s beautiful, it’s romantic, it’s theatrical, it’s funny. It has stories and music, an irrepressible soloist with an electric harp, a daring conductor who jumps off the podium to play cello and a talented, powerful, engaging ensemble of musicians.

It won a Grammy Nomination for “Best Classical Crossover Album” in 2006, it appeared on PBS stations throughout the US as a music special in 2007 & 2008.

In 2020 it’s being re-released to inspire and uplift audiences in these troubling times. Not only is it a FREE event, but it’s also being used to raise funding for the Grand Rapids Symphony, which, like all other large ensembles cannot perform live in concert at this time.

This concert takes place in a private online screening room – in YOUR home.

BASIC DESCRIPTION

Pioneer of the electric harp –Deborah Henson-Conant (“DHC”) and her award-winning, GRAMMY-NOMINATED concert “Invention & Alchemy” is being re-released to inspire and uplift audiences in these troubling times.

When Covid-19 hit and symphonies couldn’t perform live, the American Federation of Musicians lifted streaming restrictions on this original concert video, which appeared on PBS in 2007-2008. Not only is this a FREE EVENT – it is being used to fundraise for the Grand Rapids Symphony – the orchestra that appears in the concert video – which – like most orchestras – cannot currently perform live.

Now for the first time ever, this extraordinary theatrical, musical journey will be available – for a limited time to audiences worldwide.
